Perched on a man-made beach, embedded in a tropical garden setting, and featuring classy decor throughout its interiors, this upscale property is easily among Noumea’s top resorts. The 108 apartment-style suites are spacious and tastefully decorated; they include balconies and full kitchens. The hotel is known for its first-class Aqua Royal Spa with a hydromassage pool, but the gym, tennis courts, outdoor pool (with a swim-up bar), and beach are also pleasant. Past guests have complained of pricey small portions at the restaurants, and weekend parties often cause excessive late-night noise, disrupting the otherwise peaceful environment. Guests often compare this property with the nearby Le Meridien Noumea.
Scene
Beachfront property with eclectic and natural touches within a swanky, modern framework
With palm tree-dotted grounds and polished furnishings, the property is a tasteful mix of beachy and elegant. Gleaming tiles and sleek, contemporary seating inside the large lobby are paired with woven hemp ball pendant lights, large bamboo decoration pieces, and modern art sculptures for an eclectic and classy effect. The fusion of natural and refined elements continues throughout the common areas, and several dining and lounging areas provide gorgeous views of the water and the surrounding greenery. While late-night music and parties get loud during weekends, the overall vibe is both chic and calming, geared mostly towards traveling (and often, honeymooning) couples.
Location
Amidst tropical gardens and a private beach; walkable to Anse Vata Bay restaurants, but far from Noumea center
Nestled in a fifteen-hectare tropical park with direct access to the beach, the resort’s location is ideal for soaking in natural beauty, but the center of Noumea is an 18-minute drive away. It’s an easy 10-minute walk on an oceanfront promenade to Anse Vata Bay’s main shopping and dining area, and the Ouen Toro hiking trail is 20 minutes away on foot. Attractions like the Aquarium des Lagons (seven minutes away by car) or the Tjibaou Cultural Center (20 minutes away by car) aren’t within walking distance. Nouméa Magenta Airport is a 16-minute drive away. La Tontouta International Airport is almost an hour away by car. Airport transfers are available from the hotel for fees.
Rooms
Spacious and chic; with full kitchens and balconies
Standard Suites are available with one bedroom, and Lagoon and Prestige Suites have either one or two bedrooms. At 484- or 731-square-feet, they’re spacious and comfortable, and decorated in classy neutral tones. Light wood and woven cylindrical lamps feature alongside microfiber seating, simple white bar counters, and kitchens outfitted in gray. In all but first-floor rooms, large windows open to long furnished balconies. Depending on the room category, views are of the courtyard, garden or the sea. However, rooms overlooking the hotel's bar are subject to its loud nighttime music and parties.
Modeled after apartments, suites come with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs in both the bedrooms and living rooms, ironing equipment, and safes. Full kitchens are equipped with electric stoves, dishwashers, fridges and freezers, microwaves and ovens, and cooking utensils. Kettles are available in all suites, and Prestige Suites have Espresso machines. Cots are free, but sofa beds come with extra fees. Limited Wi-Fi is free, with pricey per-day charges for additional usage.
Brightly-lit bathrooms are spacious enough, with large mirrors and sliding doors separating the toilets from the sink and shower areas. Vanity mirrors, toiletries, and hairdryers are provided. All bathrooms have walk-in showers with handheld and fixed showerheads, but no bathtubs.
Features
Several restaurants and bars but pricey food; a simple beach and pricey spa with hydroponic pool
Features here are varied. There are two restaurants and three bars, but food is generally reported to be pricey. The more casual La Pirogue emphasizes seafood and has both indoor and outdoor seating. L’Escale serves breakfast and snacks. Le Warai is the most laid-back of the bars, with beds overlooking stunning sea and sunset views. Room service is available at select hours.
The swim-up Bar Piscine at the pool has a beautiful location on the edge of the beach, but is often crowded. The beach is more spacious; it’s left largely untouched. The absence of sun beds can be refreshing or inconvenient, depending on guests’ preferences.
The gym and free tennis courts are well-maintained, but the Aqua Royal Spa is a standout feature. Along with massages, body treatments, saunas, and bubble baths, the top-of-the-line facility includes an enormous, heated Aquatonic Pool with fountains and hydromassage stations.
Six indoor and four outdoor event spaces are available. Other amenities include a convenience store well-stocked with souvenirs and fresh food. Laundry rooms are provided on select floors. Parking and a limited amount of Wi-Fi are free.
