Bottom Line

The 40-room Old Town Inn is a freshly updated budget property located in the Old Town of Florence, within walking distance of the Antique District and Siuslaw River. Amenities are limited, but there are a few perks, namely free Wi-Fi and parking plus Big Dog Donuts & Deli treats in the morning. Rooms are clean and pleasant with white-noise machines, microwaves, and mini-fridges, but they lack air-conditioning. This is a top pick for budget travelers, but it may also be worth considering the Best Western Pier Point Inn, which overlooks the Siuslaw River.

Old Town Inn

Scene

Two-pearl, well-maintained roadside hotel on the coastal highway in Florence

The Old Town Inn is a modest and well-maintained property, painted white and blue with hanging flower baskets and blue picnic tables in the outdoor parking lot, which faces the Oregon Coast Highway (Highway 101). A blue door on the ground floor leads into the small office, which closes at night. Innkeepers Sharon and Jim maintain the interiors and rooms are pleasantly decorated, so there isn’t any of the typical motel shabbiness here. Occasionally the staff will also bake cookies for guests. While amenities are limited, the Old Town Inn offers a great location in the heart of Old Town, making it a top pick for budget travelers.

Location

In Old Town Florence, near the shops and restaurants on the Siuslaw River

The Old Town Inn is centrally located in Florence off Highway 101, near the Florence City Hall and the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum. The Siuslaw River and Old Town’s shops, art galleries, bars, and eateries are two blocks away. It's a three-minute drive to the Florence Municipal Airport and Three Rivers Casino, while Heceta Beach is a 10-minute drive. Florence is known for its sprawling sand dunes (great for dune buggy tours) at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, a half-hour drive away. This location is halfway between California and Seattle and attracts many travelers on coastal road trips; Eugene is an hour's drive inland. The Heceta head Lighthouse, Sea Lion Caves, and Cape Perpetua are all around 20 to 30 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Nicely furnished rooms with white-noise machines, mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers

Old Town Inn's guest rooms mix classic light-wood furniture and contemporary decor in shades of red and blue. But it’s the small details that stand out, including the white-noise machines, mints on folded towel animals, antique-inspired phones, microwaves, mini-fridges, and rubber duckies perched on shower/tub combos in bathrooms. Other features include coffeemakers, hairdryers, and flat-screen TVs. Rooms lack air-conditioning and only have ceiling and desk fans, but Oregon's coastal weather is such that fans usually suffice, even in the summer. Rooms either come with one king or two queen beds and all have bistro tables and writing desks. There are no pet-friendly rooms, but the hotel can recommend doggy daycare centers. Bathrooms are small with wall-mounted soap and shampoo dispensers and external sinks.

Guests can log onto the hotel’s Wi-Fi at no extra charge. Packages are available for couples that include rose petals on beds, gifts, and Champagne on ice.
