Too far to walk to the city's main attractions
The Atelier Saint-Germain is a charming mid-range hotel on the southern edge of the city's 6th arrondissement, a five-minute walk from Luxembourg Gardens. While slightly outside the tourist area, the hotel is still near a plethora of shops, eateries, and a one-minute walk to Vavin Metro station. Its 17 guest rooms are stylish but tiny and show some signs of wear and tear, though they are clean and have free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and black-and-white photos of ballerinas at Parisian landmarks. Other than breakfast, the hotel doesn't have additional features. The nearby Hotel Chaplain Rive Gauche is similarly stylish, but rooms are slightly larger and bathrooms feature tubs.
Scene
Chic and charming decor with purple accents and ballet-themed photos
The Atelier Saint-Germain's cream-colored stone building features classic Parisian architecture like wrought-iron balconies and top dormer windows that blend in seamlessly with neighboring buildings. Its lobby is chic and charming with dark gray and purple walls. Old-World accents such as a vintage dresser and candelabra tie in with black-and-white photos featuring ballerinas at city sights. Two tan armchairs give guests a place to collect themselves, and an array of brochures offer travel ideas. A small elevator is a nice perk at a Paris hotel. With its proximity to the metro and tiny rooms, the hotel is best suited for couples or individuals who want to spend a weekend sightseeing in Paris.
Location
Slightly outside of tourist area, a five-minute walk to Luxembourg Gardens and a one-minute walk to the metro
Located on a charming side street just off the Boulevard du Montparnasse on the southern-most edge of Paris’ 6th arrondissement, the Atelier Saint-Germain is situated in walking distance to a plethora of shops, eateries, and metro stations, including one station just a minute’s jaunt from the hotel. Though located in a relatively non-touristy area, the metro provides easy access to most major attractions in under a half an hour, and Luxembourg Gardens is a mere five-minute walk from the hotel. Note that despite the hotel’s name, Atelier Saint-Germain is really about a 15 minute’s walk from the popular Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood and is closer to the Montparnasse area.- One-minute walk to Vavin metro stop
Rooms
Tiny but stylish, ballet-themed rooms with free Wi-Fi
Rooms at the Atelier Saint-Germain are stylish but tiny, though comparably-sized to other mid-range Parisian hotels. Each room is named after a ballet position, and features a large black-and-white photo of a Paris sight and a ballerina. White walls meet rich dark purple accents, hardwood floors, light wood furniture, and simple white bedding. Rooms each include a desk and chair, nightstand, small flat-screen TV, wardrobe, safe, and mini-fridge stocked with drinks and a few snacks. Wi-Fi is free and works well, and rooms have air-conditioning, but there’s no in-room coffee or tea making facilities. The furniture is somewhat worn and paint may be scratched or chipped, but rooms are clean and comfortable for a night’s sleep.Bathrooms are more recently updated than the rooms themselves, and though they're also tiny they are chicly designed. Think: fully tiled with trendy color and glass details, black vessel sinks, wet-room-style showers, and free individual toiletries from Algotherm. Bathrooms also have hairdryers. Despite its location on a bustling street, with the windows closed rooms are relatively quiet. Some rooms overlook an unattractive alley.
Features
Free Wi-Fi and a charge for breakfast
The Atelier Saint-Germain has few extra property features, but it does offer a continental breakfast in a small dining area that's windowless but elegant, with stone walls and pink accents. The breakfast includes a buffet-style selection of cold cereal, cold meats, toast, coffee, tea, and juice. Breakfast is not included with the room rate, and most guests agree it’s not worth the extra cost. Reception is open 24 hours. An airport shuttle to the hotel is available for an extra fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
