Bottom Line

The two-pearl Est Hotel Paris is an affordable Right Bank option for budget-conscious travelers that's within a short walk of Canal Saint-Martin's hip bistros, cafes, and boutiques. The property's 83 guest rooms have a simple, functional feel, but they sport bright colors to enliven the look. There's no AC -- a considerable drawback -- and units lack kettles, but all have flat-screen TVs, desks, and free Wi-Fi. Facilities are limited, but there's a decent-quality continental breakfast for an extra charge. Travelers who want a more upscale stay might consider the nearby Hotel Soft.

Scene

Simple tourist hotel with continental breakfast and courtyard

Est Hotel Paris is housed in a typical seven-story Haussmann building in the 10th Arrondissement. The reception area features marble floors and bright yellow walls, while the lobby seating area is more nondescript, with spare decor. The courtyard with potted plants and trees is much more attractive, and it's a good spot to get some fresh air. Guests also gather in the basement breakfast room, with black-and-white photos and chairs upholstered in red vinyl. The hotel has a very simple, budget feel, and it draws international leisure travelers. The property is undergoing renovations as of June 2017.

Location

Centrally located on a busy street, close to the metro and trendy Canal Saint-Martin

The Est Hotel is located on busy Boulevard de Magenta in the 10th Arrondissement. The immediate area has cafes and bistros, but there are better options around Canal Saint-Martin. Public transportation is convenient, as the Strasbourg/Magenta bus stop is across the street, and Jacques Bonsergent metro station is a three-minute walk from the hotel. - Six-minute walk to Canal Saint-Martin

Rooms

Simple and colorful, with flat-screen TVs and desks, but no AC or kettles

Guest rooms at the Est Hotel Paris have simple, contemporary decor, and spaces are bright. There's laminate hardwood floors and inexpensive light-wood furniture, and a dash of color with wall-mounted panels in orange, red, or blue. Some have toile or floral-print bedspreads. There's no AC or kettles, but all units have wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, desks, and free Wi-Fi, and some feature Juliet balconies. Bathrooms are basic but tidy, and some sport colorful orange or red tile. All have hairdryers and stall showers or showers/tub combos.

Features

Continental breakfast buffet (fee), 24-hour front desk, and free Wi-Fi

The Est Hotel Paris has limited facilities. It offers a fairly good continental breakfast buffet (for a fee), with fresh bread, croissants, cakes, pain au chocolat, cheese, yogurt, coffee, and tea. There's also a small but pleasant courtyard off the lobby. Other amenities include vending machines with drinks (including hot coffee) and sweets, plus a 24-hour front desk with multilingual staff offering tourist advice. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. The hotel has no parking on-site, but parking is available at nearby Gare de l'Est Station for a fee.
