Hotel de Castiglione

The Hotel de Castiglione offers an intimate, budget-friendly vacation on the corner of Rue d’Anjou and Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, with panoramic views of Paris from its top floors. Built in 1932, the hotel was designed by French architect Charles Siclis, who later went on to design French Army camouflage to hide ammunition storage and weapon factories during World War II. The hotel’s Art Deco exterior with a gold marquee that reads “Hotel de Castiglione” stands out against the turn-of-the-century neighboring buildings. A rotating door leads into the small marble lobby, filled with Art Deco touches, gold details, and elegant furniture. A gold railing staircase, with 1930s flair and purple carpeting, winds up the hotel’s eight floors. There’s an old-fashioned elevator for those who don't want to climb stairs. Hallways are narrow and and a bit dark. The hotel’s bar and restaurant features large windows that provide natural light. The atmosphere is elegant, but casual with purple wall lamps, dark wood furniture, red Art Deco wall designs, and a flat-screen TV over the bar.

The hotel’s best feature is its location in the 8th Arrondissement, near Paris sites and high-end shopping, with Hermes, Givenchy, and Tod’s on the same block. More designer boutiques, bars, and restaurants are on the same street as the hotel. The Champs-Elysees, Place de la Concorde, Elysees Palace, the Madeleine Church, Palais Garnier, and the Louvre Museum are all within walking distance. The Concorde Metro station is three blocks away and the Madeleine station is five blocks away. The Arc de Triomphe is a 20-minute subway ride and the Eiffel Tower takes 30 minutes. The Paris Orly Airport and the Charles de Gaulle Airport are 30 minutes by car.

Classic wood furniture, homey textiles, and earth-tone interior furnishings decorate this affordable property. Features include flat-screen TVs, writing desks, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, minibars, and safes. Modern bathrooms offer hairdryers, heated towel racks, shower/tub combos, or separate showers and bathtubs. Suites are more stylish with contemporary decor, living rooms or sitting areas, bathrobes, slippers, floral arrangements, and (in some) whirlpool tubs. Duplex Suites have spiral staircases at the entrance. Superior and Deluxe rooms and Suites have balconies or terraces that offer Paris city or Eiffel Tower views. Day rooms are also available for a few hours.

The Hotel de Castiglione doesn't have an abundance of common space, but is home to a small ground floor bar that overlooks the street and a bright breakfast room. A computer corner in the lobby has a computer and an iPad. The front desk can assist with business services, including faxing and copying. Airport transfers, ticket, and tour reservations can also be arranged by hotel staff. Luggage storage is available. Wi-Fi is free throughout, but the signal is sometimes weak.
