The boutique Hotel Recamier is an elegant, intimate choice that's a short walk from the shops and cafes of Saint-Germain. The hotel is on Saint-Sulpice
Square, next to the Church of the Saint-Sulpice, the site of a major plot development
in "The Da Vinci Code." Superbly designed interiors and 24 lavish rooms with plush beds and stunning design are complemented by an excellent breakfast buffet (for a fee) and free
afternoon tea service. The Recamier is a good choice for well-heeled travelers. A simple but stylish boutique vibe can be had at nearby Hotel le Clos Medicis for less cash, though rooms won't be quite as chic.
Scene
Contemporary boutique hotel with intimate feel
The Hotel Recamier is housed in an early 20th-century
stone building, once a former bourgeois family home. The Recamier is named for Juliette Recamier, an early 19th-century
society beauty who hosted salons of leading literary and political figures, and the hotel fits in with the exclusive air of the neighborhood, and has a
gracious and intimate feel. The hotel's
interiors are crafted by French designer Jean-Louis Denoit. The elegant
entryway has a black-and-white tiled floor and color photos on the wall. A small
lobby-level sitting room features a circular sofa, fresh flowers, and a
forest-green carpet, while an adjacent salon has a brown velvet sofa, a shelf
with books and art objects, and a fireplace with an African bust on the mantle.
Guests can also relax with a book or a drink on the small garden terrace. Guests gather at breakfast and for the free afternoon tea service. The Recamier tends to
attract well-heeled travelers and couples who appreciate the hotel's quiet Left
Bank location and gracious feel.
Location
Near chic Saint-Germain and Luxembourg Gardens
The Hotel Recamier offers a quiet location on the Left Bank
in the 6th Arrondissement. The hotel is on Saint-Sulpice Square next to the
Eglise Saint-Sulpice, the 17th-century church featured in "The Da Vinci Code." The Saint-Sulpice Metro station is a three-minute walk northwest of
the hotel and the northern edge of the Luxembourg Gardens is a two-minute walk
south. The Recamier is in the charming and chic Saint-Germain-des-Pres area with its
numerous cafes, restaurants, and shops. The Marche Couvert covered market is a
3-minute walk north, the famous Le Deux Magots and Cafe Flore cafes are a
seven-minute walk north, and Le Bon Marche department store is a 10-minute walk
west of the hotel. The Latin Quarter and Sorbonne University are about a
10-minute stroll east of the hotel, while Notre Dame Cathedral, Sainte-Chapelle
Church, and Ile de la Cite are all about a 12-minute stroll northeast. The Louvre
and Rue de Rivoli shopping are a 20-minute walk north. The area with
Montparnasse Cemetery, Montparnasse Tower, and Gare Montparnasse train station
is about a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk southwest of the hotel. Charles
de Gaulle Airport is a 35-minute drive northeast of the Hotel Recamier, though this can vary greatly depending on traffic.
Rooms
Sharp, modern rooms with plush beds, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs
The 24 all non-smoking rooms at the Hotel Recamier are
situated on six floors. Rooms come in Classic, Club, Deluxe, and Tradition
categories, and range from 151 to 323 square feet, so some rooms are small,
but not particularly small by Paris hotel standards. The boutique rooms have a
contemporary look with classic elements that create a sophisticated feel by utilizing many vibrant patterns.
Rooms feature elements like crown molding, textured wallpaper, vintage furniture, gold sun mirrors, pottery lamps, and original artwork and photographs.
The color palette is warm, with shades of brown, rust, gold, tan, beige, and
cream predominating. Rooms are clean and quiet and get decent natural light.
Views are mostly of surrounding Parisian rooftops, though some rooms have views of
the neighboring Saint-Sulpice Church. Rooms all feature in-room safes (laptop
compatible), minibars with premium snacks and drinks, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and
flat-screen TVs with international channels and integrated iPod docks. Rooms do
not have coffeemakers. The plush beds feature thick mattresses dressed in
Egyptian cotton sheets. Some beds feature a canopy. Most bathrooms are
spacious, and all are clean and well lighted with ample counter space. All
feature bidets, heated towel racks, Egyptian cotton towels, bathrobes and
slippers, and premium bath products. Some bathrooms do not have bathtubs.
