Bottom Line

Located in the 13th Arrondissement, the budget Oops! Hostel has fun, mod decor throughout. Its 46 rooms include dorms with bunk beds that can sleep up to six, along with some private rooms. All rooms include free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and sheets. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and the lobby has several computer stations. The property also has a communal kitchen. The hostel's location is about a 10-minute walk to the Latin Quarter. But there's few spaces on-site for socializing, and no scheduled activities typical of hostels. Travelers looking to mix and mingle may prefer the Generator Hostel, which has two bars and a lounge, but slightly higher rates.

Scene

Splashy, dorm-room style

Housed inside a turn-of-the-century building, the Oops! Hostel fits in well with the apartment and office buildings that surround it. Inside the entryway it's much glitzier, with a light-wall that reads "OOPS!" on one side and a row of computer stations on the other. Walls are covered in tiles with a brown cowhide pattern, and the reception desk is hard to miss with its red, pixelated lights. The staircase has wooden flooring that's aged well and nicely complements the black-and-white flowered wallpaper. Hallways glow in fluorescent shades of gold and pink. The breakfast room could easily be a college cafeteria: black tables, black-mesh chairs, and a floor covered with beige-and-white stripes. A swirling rainbow with flowers adds a bit of personality to the otherwise low-key decor. It's worth noting that compared to other hostels, this property doesn't schedule social activities or provide much of an atmosphere for mixing and mingling.

Location

In the 13th Arrondissement, within a 10-minute walk of the Latin Quarter

Oops! Hostel is located in the 13th Arrondissement, home to Paris' largest Asian community, and has several Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants nearby. The district also has some lesser-known but still interesting sights such as the Manufacture des Gobelins (a two-minute walk from the hotel), which has been home to many royal tapestry makers over the centuries and is now a museum. The hostel is about a 10-minute walk to the Latin Quarter. Bigger sightseeing destinations are a little farther away. The Eiffel Tower is a 17-minute drive away or about 40 minutes on the metro. The Louvre is a 13-minute car ride or about 21 minutes on the metro. Charles de Gaulle Airport is about a 35-minute taxi ride, while Orly Airport is about a 20- to 25-minute ride.

Rooms

Minimalist and modern with en-suite bathrooms and showers

The Oops Hostel has a bold and cheery look, and the rooms are a lot more stylish than in most hostels. Most of the walls are adorned with a fun wallpaper that has a mod, geometric design or faux brick. Rooms have small tables, and some have outdoor terraces that can fit two. Private Double Rooms are available, along with dorms that can sleep up to six. But dorm rooms lack any storage lockers or TVs, which are available in Private Doubles. Both dorm and private rooms have their own bathrooms, which have muted gray tiles, and small showers divided by fabric curtains. All rooms include sheets (not a given in all hostels) and hairdryers.

Features

Free breakfast and computer stations

Like many hostels, the amenities at Oops! are limited. A free breakfast is served, but the starch-heavy offerings get mixed reviews from many guests. There's a self-service kitchen on-site, and computer stations in the lobby. Free Wi-Fi is available in most of the common areas. Unlike other hostels, there are no social activities scheduled.
