Bottom Line

The mid-range Residence Champ De Mars enjoys a lovely location near Paris’s most noteworthy attraction: the Eiffel Tower. The atmosphere at the hotel is modern and more like an apartment building than a hotel. The 25 rooms are clean and stylish; they feature flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers. The apartments and studios offer kitchenettes. Unfortunately, all units lack air-conditioning and walls are thin. Perks are limited to free Wi-Fi and an outdoor courtyard, as there is no restaurant, bar, breakfast, or gym on-site. For about the same price, guests can get more amenities at the nearby Eiffel River Gauche which offers breakfast, a free cheese and wine hour, and a computer in the lobby.

Scene

Small hotel with a modern design and few public spaces

Residence Champ De Mars is less like a hotel and more like a cozy, modern apartment building. Yes, there’s a lobby, but it has limited hours and only one receptionist, and feels more like an apartment concierge than a front desk. Public areas are limited to a quaint outdoor garden and a small elevator. This property is well-suited to travelers who need little in the way of attention from hotel staff, and are content with being left to their own devices. Most of the guests are couples, drawn here for the romantic location near the Eiffel Tower, and families looking for a safe area and self-catering apartments. Take note that the property lacks a website, which is unusual for a hotel.

Location

Within walking distance to the Eiffel Tower and public transportation

The hotel’s best feature is its ideal location near the Eiffel Tower -- just a 13-minute walk away. It's sometimes hard to find the hotel, as it’s located down a small street. Travelers can walk to the Grand Palais in 32 minutes or walk to the Rodin Museum in 25 minutes. The immediate area near the hotel is quiet and includes a bakery, school, and a church, but has little in the way of shopping or dining options. The closest metro and bus stop are a five-minute walk away. It’s a 40-minute drive to Charles De Gaulle Airport.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with flat-screen TVs and bottled water or apartments and studios with kitchenettes

Rooms at Residence Champ De Mars are spacious compared to competing Parisian hotels. There are a few different room types available: guest rooms, apartments, and studios. Decor is minimal, but trendy, with gray laminate wood floors, white beds, contemporary headboards, and stylish armchairs that add a bit of maroon, orange, or red to the rooms. All units have flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, free bottled water, and desks. Apartments and studios are equipped with kitchenettes that feature sinks, stovetops, toaster ovens, mini-fridges, dishwashers, cookware, utensils, and dishes. There are no safes or air-conditioning in the rooms, and despite its close location, only a few have views of the Eiffel Tower. Many rooms actually have uninspired views of courtyards or neighboring building's walls. Bathrooms vary in design, but most have small glass showers, hairdryers, and limited toiletries provided in wall dispensers. There are some units with open-floor bathroom plans or narrow spaces between the sinks and showers. The most frequent complaint about the rooms is bothersome noise due to thin walls. Wi-Fi is also reportedly slow.

Features

Drinks and coffee offered in the lobby, outdoor courtyard, and free Wi-Fi

Residence Champ De Mars has few amenities outside the rooms and apartments. There’s no breakfast, restaurant, parking, gym, or pool. The features are limited to an assortment of drinks and coffee offered in the lobby, as well as a charming outdoor courtyard with seating for guests to enjoy. Wi-Fi is free throughout, but it receives varying reports on connectivity. Parking is available at a nearby garage for a fee.
