Bottom Line

The historic Spanish Colonial design of Palacio del Inka, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Cusco is both romantic and charming, drawing mostly couples for a sophisticated stay. The 203 guest rooms feel a bit more boutique and modern than the rest of the hotel, and have 21st century comforts like flat-screen TVs and minibars, though no coffeemakers. The gorgeous spa and Andean restaurant with international specialties are the biggest highlights, but the spa costs a fee, as does the much-loved breakfast buffet provided in the mornings. Travelers looking for a similar upscale hotel with a Cusco city center location can also check the prices at Inkaterra La Casona which is a smaller property with an even more intimate vibe.

Scene

Historic hotel with a romantic and luxurious atmosphere and lovely public spaces

Dating back to the 1500s, Palacio del Inka, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Cusco has managed to maintain the Spanish Colonial facade and incorporate historic elements throughout the property to create an overall romantic atmosphere. While most of the hotel features low-lighting (which isn’t to everyone’s taste), the lobby is probably the brightest area thanks to a glass ceiling that brightens the blue walls and stone floors and columns. There are plenty of areas for guests to relax and interact, from the stone outdoor courtyard with a fountain to inside lobby lounges with plush furniture. The vibrant colonial style is seen in many areas of the hotel such as with the wide collection of historic art work in gold frames or the hand-carved wooden front desk. The best part of the property is the attention it gives to guests such as by providing coca tea in the lobby or oxygen on call for those dealing with altitude sickness. Guests run the gamut, but the historic Spanish decor, plush fabrics, and the low lighting have created an overall intimate setting that attracts couples looking for a romantic place to stay in Cusco.

Location

Across from Qorikancha and a seven-minute walk to Plaza de Armas

Palacio del Inka, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Cusco has a fantastic location right across from two of the city’s major attractions, the temples of Qorikancha and Koricancha. Cusco is known for having a lot of stairs. Plaza de Armas, the main square of the city that holds the Cusco Cathedral, shopping, and restaurants, is just a seven-minute walk away. It's possible to walk to Sacsayhuaman within a 15-minute walk. It takes 20 minutes by car to reach the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport.

Rooms

Attractive rooms with minibars and flat-screen TVs; some have air-conditioning

The rooms and suites at this property have a boutique aesthetic with high-quality fabrics intermingling with dark wood furnishings. The color palette includes golds, maroons, and black found among the floral carpet, wall designs, and in the large black and gold headboards.  Amenities are rich and include flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and free Wi-Fi for SPG members. Unfortunately, coffeemakers are missing, though the hotel has a 24-hour drink and oxygen service. Note that only Deluxe Rooms and Deluxe Suites have air-conditioning. The tan bathrooms are spacious and come with shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries. Rooms may have street, temple, or courtyard views, with the better views held for suites and upper-level rooms.

Features

Mostly leisure amenities like a spa, restaurant with outdoor seating, large breakfast, and a modern gym

Features here are notable for the romantic atmosphere they evoke. Palacio del Inka has a beautiful spa with low and LED lighting in the facilities that range from a hydrotherapy pool to a thermal circuit and massage and beauty treatment rooms. Though it’s a relaxing spot that is well liked by guests, it does cost a fee to use the facilities. Dining starts in the morning with the large and varied breakfast buffet that includes notable items like honey comb and gluten-free options. It costs a pricey fee if not included in room rates. The restaurant is romantic with a menu filled with Andean and international specialties and indoor and outdoor seating. The bar has a varied alcohol menu and an intimate atmosphere. There’s a nice fitness center with Technogym cardio machines, free weights, and flat-screen TVs. Business travelers can use the business center or four meeting spaces. Wi-Fi is only free for SPG members, but it’s quite easy to sign up upon arrival (or online) to get this perk.
