Bottom Line

This immense upper-middle-range hotel sits on 160 acres of wooded grounds right by Bushkill Falls and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. It's fairly remote so a car is advised to get around. Full of features catering to both families and those seeking event space, the property has both indoor and outdoor pools, spa and fitness facilities, a well equipped game room and paintball center, and extensive meeting/event space. Dining options include a steakhouse, dining room serving American classics, and a lounge and lobby bar with pub fare. Decor is generic, but the 153 rooms, suites, and cottages are clean and contemporary. They come with flat-screen TVs and Keurig machines. As an alternative, the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort offers similar amenities, plus a golf course, but rates can be higher.

Oyster Hotel Review

Scene

Large hotel on extensive wooded grounds; caters to large groups

This upper-middle-range conference hotel is set on 160 acres of wooded grounds. Several different buildings comprise the property, including three-story gray buildings home to the hotel rooms, conference facilities, and wooden cabins.

Decor in public areas is generic and a sleek, corporate kind of bland, but spaces are clean. Think: dark wood panelling, carpeted hallways, and neutral hues enlivened by pops of colors here and there, such as red seating in the lounge or purple accents in the steakhouse. The lobby bar has an inviting vibe thanks to a fireplace and plenty of comfy couches and armchairs.

The property mainly caters to groups (especially large ones), including business travelers needing conference facilities, large conventions, and wedding parties. Families with kids are drawn here for winter or summer activities (skiing or hiking in nearby mountains) and the hotel's child-friendly facilities. Some tourists may not like the atmosphere and large scale of the place, preferring something more intimate instead.

Location

Rural wooded area near the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

The hotel is situated in a rural area on large wooded grounds. There's not much around besides the main area attraction, Bushkill Falls, a park with waterfalls, fishing, boating, and hiking trails that's a two-minute drive away (or an eight-minute walk). There's not much else in the area (other than a pizzeria a two-minute drive away) and a car is necessary to get around. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a wooded mountain region which straddles the New Jersey and Pennsylvania border, is a two-minute drive away. The Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is a 15-minute drive; the Pocono Mountains are about 55 minutes away; and Camelback Mountain Resort is a 40-minute drive. Lehigh Valley International Airport is an hour's drive from here. New York is around a two-hour drive, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Clean and contemporary rooms have flat-screen TVs and Keurig coffeemakers; suites and cottages feature spacious living rooms

There's a wide variety of accommodations available here, including rooms, suites, and cottages. The spaces are clean and contemporary, and though the look is slightly generic, they're pleasant and fairly spacious. Warm hues mix with neutrals, including rust-colored accent walls, beige bed accents on white bedding, and sleek wooden furniture with black countertops. Junior Suites, Suites, and Cottages have living rooms with sleeper sofas and armchairs. Cottages also add private furnished outdoor decks.

All rooms have 40-inch flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffeemakers, mini-fridges, iHome docks, safes, and free Wi-Fi, but there are no microwaves nor do any units have kitchens/kitchenettes. Bathrooms provide roomy granite-topped sink basins, walk-in showers or shower/tub combos, heated floors, and magnifying mirrors. Toiletries are supplied, as are hairdryers. Some suites have both whirlpool tubs and large walk-in showers.

Features

Indoor and outdoor pools, spa and fitness facilities, steakhouse, and extensive event space

Features cater to both business and leisure travelers. The hotel has indoor and outdoor pools, the outdoor pool is the larger option that's suitable for lap swimming. The bright and airy indoor pool is situated in an atrium space that lets in natural light and overlooks the outdoor pool just outside. Cheery yellow padded loungers line both indoor and outdoor pool decks. Note that the outdoor pool is seasonal

There are several dining options, a convenience in this remote area. The steakhouse serves steak and seafood as well salads, sandwiches, pizza, and pasta, while the main dining room offers American classics. There's also a lobby bar, as well as a lounge serving drinks and bar food.

Though not too large, the fitness center offers a decent number and variety of Life Fitness machines, including treadmills, stationary bikes, and free weights, as well as being equipped with flat-screen TVs. The spa offers a range of treatments in a pleasant environment, including massages, body wraps, and scrubs. Plus, there are steam rooms and a relaxation room.

The hotel has extensive meeting and event space, which ranges from boardrooms to a 400-seat amphitheater. It caters to a variety of different kinds of functions, including weddings and conferences. There's a business center with computers and a printer. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

There's a game room equipped with a variety of arcade games, table tennis, and foosball. Kids can also play at the outdoor playground. Other activities include basketball, volleyball, archery, and tennis. A fun bonus is the paintball center on-site.
