La Ferme d’Augustin

An old farm converted into a hotel in the 1950s, this boutique property has a homey and inviting feel that attracts tourists who want to relax in a beautiful Provencal setting. Cypress trees line the road leading to the property. Tall umbrella lines border the chic pool area, and roses, ivy, and other lush greenery make for a charming atmosphere on outdoor patios lined with tables where guests can dine alfresco. Inside, decor is a homey blend of rustic and antique pieces accompanied by art adorning the walls. The spaces are cozy, with comfy, colorful sofas and striped armchairs in living room-like spaces and fireplace nooks. Fresh flowers enhance the spaces, with lovely bouquets dotting tables throughout the property. Overall, it's a charming hotel that draws mostly French and international couples seeking a tranquil atmosphere and proximity to the beach.

The hotel is situated in Ramatuelle, a five-minute walk to a lovely, long stretch of beach, the three-mile long Plage de Pampelonne. Restaurants and bars line the beach. Saint Tropez, with shops, restaurants, nightlife, and a charming old town, is about a 10-minute drive away (the hotel offers a free shuttle service). Popular Cote d'Azur locales like Cannes, Grasse, and Antibes can be reached in about 90 minutes. The nearest train station is in St. Raphael Valescure, which is about an hour's drive away (so a car is advised to get around). Nice's Côte d'Azur Airport is an hour-and a-half away.

Rooms are simply yet pleasantly styled, featuring a homey, rustic look that pairs white walls with terra-cotta floors and wooden furnishings. Colorful accent pillows dot white bedspreads. Patterned curtains and art on the walls also add some color to the spaces and keep them from feeling too spare. All rooms have writing desks, as well as air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, electronic safes, minibars, and free Wi-Fi -- but no tea/coffee-making facilities. Some rooms have balconies, and some of the Junior Suites have terraces or little gardens. Bathrooms have shower/tub combos (some have whirlpool tubs or hammam-style showers) as well as magnifying mirrors, hairdryers, toiletries, bathrobes, and slippers. Note that some past guests have complained of uncomfortable beds.

Features are a bit limited at this small hotel, but the handful offered add convenience and charm to guests' stays. One of the highlights is the lovely heated outdoor pool, which has power jets and is surrounded by chic striped loungers lining the sundeck. There's also a restaurant on-site that serves seasonal and traditional Provencal fare for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is also available and served until late, but the meal isn't included in room rates. Guests have the option of dining inside or alfresco on one of the patios, terraces, or in the garden, plus room service is available. Food gets great reviews, and guests rave about the locally sourced fare -- some of the ingredients are culled straight from the on-site garden. Other amenities include free Wi-Fi throughout the property, private parking, and free shuttle service to Saint Tropez. The hotel also sells some local products, like its own rosé wine, olive oil, jams from fruit culled from the on-site garden, as well as various perfumes, soaps, and candles.
