The Comfort Inn is an unfussy, two-pearl property located in San Juan’s trendy Condado district. Although the hotel’s 50 rooms are chain-like, they’re also clean and modern, offering flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. On-site amenities at this no-frills hotel include a modest courtyard pool and a little dining room where free buffet breakfast is served each morning. While the hotel isn’t set right on the beach, it’s less than a 10-minute walk to gorgeous Condado Beach; plus, Avenida Ashford’s chic shops and restaurants are easily accessible by foot. It’s worth comparing amenities and rates with the neighboring Holiday Inn Express San Juan Condado.
Scene
Pleasant chain hotel geared toward budget travelers
The Comfort Inn is an ideal choice for travelers seeking an affordable base in the pricey Condado neighborhood. While the hotel is by no means stylish, its interior is smarter and more contemporary than guests might expect for a two-pearl property (or from the first impression set by the hotel’s boxy, somber exterior). The hotel delivers the standard Comfort Inn amenities, including a solid breakfast buffet and well-kept guest rooms. Families, couples, and business travelers of all ages line up patiently at the breakfast buffet every morning, but the property is virtually deserted throughout the rest of the day. If you do decide to stick around during the afternoon, you’re almost certain to have the pool completely to yourself.
Location
Convenient location in Condado, a short walk from the beach
Tucked amid austere building facades and parking garages, the Comfort Inn is in an unattractive area; but it’s only a two-minute walk to Avenida Ashford, Condado’s main thoroughfare. There are tons of restaurants, bars, and shops lined along this popular street. It’s also less than a 10-minute walk to the pretty oceanfront park of La Ventana al Mar, as well as beautiful Condado Beach. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from the Puerto Rico Convention Center. Old San Juan can be reached in 10 minutes by car, and it’s around a 20-minute drive to San Juan’s airport.
Rooms
Clean, simple rooms offering flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers
Guest rooms at the Comfort Inn are bright and inviting but generic, with tiled flooring and off-white walls. Beds are fitted with brownish-gold duvets, matching the curtains, along with either red or green bed runners. Many rooms have long bureaus that function as both TV tables and work desks, with flat-screen TVs set on one side and ergonomic chairs found on the other; but some rooms provide separate work desks. Free Wi-Fi and one-cup coffeemakers are standard. Wooden closets hold personal safes and ironing boards. Most rooms have small vanities set just outside the bathroom, which offer off-brand shampoo bottles and soap bars. Gray-tiled bathrooms include showers with partial glass walls. Suites feature separate living areas with mini-fridges and sitting areas, but their sparse furnishings make them feel a bit unfinished. Suites also include roomy terraces with nice lagoon views.
Features
Uncrowded outdoor pool plus a good free buffet breakfast with a range of dishes
Features at this Comfort Inn hit all the hallmarks of the brand, though nothing goes a step beyond the norm. The small, outdoor pool is set in an uninspiring courtyard, where it’s overlooked by drab concrete buildings. The pool is surrounded by a hodgepodge assortment of loungers and patio tables. Free buffet breakfast, which is included in the room rate, is served in a compact room located off the lobby. Guests who have stayed at other Comfort Inn locations will recognize the cheery buffet station, which is decorated with colorful signs printed with messages like “Get your breakfast on.” The buffet features a decent spread of cereals, yogurt, pastries, and hot items like eggs. It can be tough to find a seat during peak hours. A few different snacks and drinks are available for purchase in the lobby. Free Wi-Fi is offered throughout. The hotel has its own tiny paid parking lot; there are also several public parking lots within walking distance that charge comparable rates.
