The decor is modern and bright, but the indoor common spaces don't feel intimate and cozy, the way the outdoor spaces do
The 40-room, upscale boutique Hotel Monte Sarago is ideally located for tourists, business travelers, and those who want to relax above the urban fray. The Ostuni hotel is five minutes' walk from the heart of the historic "White City," and the beaches are 10 minutes' drive away. The small, but beautiful pool is nestled along the cliffside above the main building, with spectacular panoramic views. Rooms are modern, pristine, and lovely, with platform beds and handsome gray marble bathrooms that ooze luxury. The Monte Sarago looks and feels modern throughout. Visitors who want more rustic digs should also check out the Hotel Rione Antico La Terra in the heart of the historic district.
Scene
Large, modern, and bright, with beautiful views
The Hotel Monte Sarago is bright and contemporary, with mod indoor spaces and spectacular views of the countryside and historic "White City" of Ostuni down below. While the hotel is small, the common spaces feel vast, with different areas for gathering over cocktails and conversation, as well as a lovely, if smallish, pool nestled against the cliffside, a hundred steps above the main building. The outdoor spaces feel rustic and luxurious, but the indoor public spaces are a bit cavernous with minimalist decor. L'Opificio restaurant serves traditional Salento and Italian cuisine inside its modern dining room, with mirror panels hung from the ceiling and cream and crimson-colored chairs, or outdoors on the terrace where the view is king. The bar is huge, decorated in white with dark wood furniture and vivid splashes of color in the barstools, funky spring green egg chairs, and orange-accented seating clustered around the large flat screen TV. The rooftop terrace is done with white wicker furniture and white beach umbrellas, reflecting the panorama below. This is an ideal hotel for guests who enjoy the intimacy of a boutique hotel but want plenty of space to hang out without feeling on top of other visitors.
Location
A short walk to Ostuni's historic district, near local nightlife, but peaceful and quiet
The Hotel Monte Sarago is located up a hill, five minutes' walk from the historic center of Ostuni, also known as the "White City." The sea coast and beaches are a 10-minute drive. The hotel is on a busy road, with nightlife, restaurants, bars, and other attractions easily accessible. The Ostuni Railway Station is just less than two miles away, while airports are farther. Brindisi Airport is 18.5 miles, and Bari Airport is 61 miles from the hotel. Despite the busy road outside, the location on a hillside makes for a very restful spot with gorgeous views.
Rooms
Big, bright rooms with ultra modern bathrooms, all done in a contemporary Mediterranean style
Rooms at the Hotel Monte Sarago are big, uncluttered and air-conditioned, with platform beds and lovely damask bedspreads. Some have private balconies. Spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated with modern furnishings, the rooms are quiet, although rooms facing the street may be noisier than some guests like. The bathrooms are handsomely decorated in slate grey stone, with walk in glass showers and granite countertops, and an abundance of toiletries. Suite Spa bathrooms are enormous, with hot tubs, multi-head showers, and aerobic machines, which are oddly located right next to the toilet and bidet, but will likely be appreciated by committed exercisers.
Features
Daily continental breakfast, outdoor pool, and beach shuttle
The Hotel Monte Sarago offers a daily continental breakfast buffet with great coffee, for a surcharge. The outdoor pool, open during the summer months, is a hundred steps above the main buildings, overlooking Otsuni and the sea. The pool is reached via a picturesque rock stairway, or, for those who can't make the climb, by hotel shuttle. The Monte Sarago also runs a shuttle to the beach. There is a restaurant serving local specialties, and a large bar with flat screens for watching soccer and other sports.
