Scene
Pleasant, family-run value hotel with a calm atmosphere
This family-run option has something for everyone and can be a good value for the area. The early 20th-century building still retains various original features, including a marble staircase and marble tiling that help make an elegant, classical first impression. However, some common areas have been given a more modern overhaul. The majority of rooms in the main building are a bit more classical and some are tired. The street outside is pedestrianized, so there’s little to no traffic noise, and the hotel has an overall calm, cheery atmosphere. Annex rooms are a short two blocks away, and have more modern, stylish decor in handsome dark tones. Visitors hail primarily from North America, Western Europe, and Australia, as well as China and Russia.
Location
On one of Rome’s main pedestrian-only shopping streets, and within walking distance to most attractions
Running a straight line from Piazza del Popolo down to Piazza Venezia, Via Del Corso is one of Rome’s main shopping streets, packed with well-known clothing brands as well as more local establishments. Hotel del Corso is situated on the north end of the street, a six-minute walk from the public events of Piazza del Popolo. Both the Spanish Steps and hushed greenery of Villa Borghese are also a convenient six-minute walk away, while Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona can be reached in just under 15 minutes on foot. Those feeling energetic can make it to the Colosseum or the Vatican in roughly 30 minutes by foot, and Ciampino and Fiumicino airports are both about a 45-minute drive from the hotel.
Rooms
Both classic and modern styles, with standard amenities, though annex rooms add Nespresso machines
Handsome wood paneling, classically patterned wallpaper, and gold-gilded accents define the majority of the rooms in the main building, lending a traditional charm that's either attractive or tired depending on your perspective. All rooms are clean and come with standard amenities like mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi and safe access. Soundproofing cuts out noise from the street, although that from neighboring rooms and the hallway can still be audible. Bathrooms are decked in marble, but in dated colors, and most have showers.
Rooms in the main building are classed according to occupancy and size: the Small Double Room comes with a small double bed and window facing an internal hallway, while Standard Double Rooms are larger with a charming rose-and-wood theme. Suites are suited to families and couples who’d like more space, and come with round beds and a seating area with a sofabed.
All rooms in the annex building have more modern decor, along with extra amenities including Nespresso machines, slippers, and free bottled water -- providing great value for those who don’t mind being removed from the main property. Deluxe Rooms, found in only the annex building, are spacious and include king-size beds, desks, separate seating areas, and large modern bathrooms.
Features
Simple features including a cozy rooftop terrace, breakfast buffet, and modern lounge with free snacks
In keeping with many hotels in central Rome, Hotel del Corso has a small handful of facilities, including a charming rooftop terrace where breakfast is hosted every morning. A portion that stays covered in winter can be opened up in warmer weather, and there’s additional patio seating outside. The breakfast buffet costs extra, and includes fresh fruit salad, cakes, pastries, as well as hot items such as scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage. The rooftop terrace stays open 24 hours for those fancying a drink in the evening -- although there’s no official bar service (guests are welcome to bring their own wine, or inquire with reception staff for a small selection of drinks). You can also find free daily snacks in the lounge, as well as free Wi-Fi throughout. Paid public parking is available about a three-minute walk away.
