Located a stone's throw from the Piazza della Repubblica and the Rome Termini train station, the 103-room, mid-range Hotel Torino is an older, fadedly elegant hotel within walking distance of many of Rome's historic sights and top restaurants and shops. The rooms have a rather tired style, but are outfitted with amenities like flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi; the larger suites have jetted tubs and spacious bathrooms with heated towel racks. There's a private roof terrace with panoramic views of the city and plenty of seating areas where the free breakfast can be enjoyed. Cocktails are available at the lobby bar and there is a small business center with a computer and printer. Otherwise, there are few facilities (no gym or on-site parking) but most guests choose this hotel for its location.
Scene
A classic, somewhat dated hotel with a roof terrace
Located in a restored historic building, the Hotel Torino is decorated in a classic style, with still life and pastoral artwork, Persian rugs on the floor, and heavy drapes adorning windows -- overall, it feels a bit dated. Floors are either marble or hardwood, and furnishings are either red or cream leather Chesterfield sofas, with elegant wood tables. The vintage-style lobby bar has a tufted, red leather front with recessed lighting, potted plants, and colorful rugs, while the more basic breakfast room has crown moldings, wooden chairs, white tablecloths, and antique light fixtures. Up on the roof, there's a large terrace with panoramic city views, black metal chairs, stone tables, decorative statues, and many potted plants. Most of the hotel, though, looks older and in need of a refresh, and many of the common areas are dimly lit.
Location
In Rome's loud and bustling city center, close to the Termini station and Piazza della Repubblica
The Hotel Torino is located in the noisy and busy historic center of Rome, within a stone's throw of both the Roma Termini train station and the Piazza della Repubblica. The Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica, Santa Prassede, and Rome Opera House are all also within easy walking distance. The Diocletian Baths, Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, Santa Maria deli Angeli, shops, restaurants, and plenty of public transportation options are all also easy to get to. The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and Spanish Steps are all less than a 15-minute metro ride from the hotel, while the Pantheon is a 20-minute bus ride. Ciampino Airport is a 25-minute drive (one-hour metro ride) away.
Rooms
Dated and classic, with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning
Rooms at the Hotel Torino are classic and a bit worn, all with yellow bedspreads, crown moldings, pink wallpaper, and pink chairs. Floors are either red patterned carpet or hardwood. Most furniture is in a stained wood, and all rooms have small minibars, flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning. Suites are larger, with multiple bedrooms and large bathrooms with jetted tubs and heated towel racks. But the old wallpaper in both rooms and suites is faded and even a bit dirty, and the furniture shows wear and tear. Additionally, some rooms have a smoky odor and get noise from the street outside. Most bathrooms are done in pink tile, while others are more updated with white sinks and brown tile-work. Hairdryers, makeup mirrors, and signature Leonardi Hotels toiletries are provided. Only suites have bathrooms with tubs.
