A modern hotel in central Sao Paulo, Transamerica Prime
International Plaza offers 312 spacious apartment-style rooms with
kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. On-site
facilities includes a small outdoor pool with waterfall, plus a sauna, fitness room, relaxation room, and restaurant, as well as a 30th-floor rooftop
bar that offers stellar views of the city. While not especially upscale, the
Transamerica is a good contemporary option for both business and leisure
travelers who want to be near the shopping, dining, and offices around Paulista Avenue.
Scene
Contemporary hotel with a pool and rooftop bar with views
The atmosphere at the Transamerica is energetic, reflecting
the hotel's central location a block and a half from the bustling Paulista Avenue. The public spaces in this 30-floor modern tower are bright and open, and there's a light, airy,
atrium-style lobby at the center. Other common areas include a pretty outdoor
pool with a waterfall, and a 30th-floor rooftop
bar with city views. The Transamerica draws a large number of business travelers, especially during the work week, thanks to its location near financial
institutions. However, it does attract a fair few vacationers, and is especially good for those on extended stays, as the rooms feature the convenience of kitchenettes.
Location
Central Sao Paulo location near the vibrant Paulista Avenue
The Transamerica offers a choice location in the
center of Sao Paulo, a block and a half southwest of Paulista Avenue, the main
artery of the city. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, financial
institutions, and cultural venues within walking distance, including the Museum
of Art of Sao Paulo, a 10-minute walk northwest of the hotel. The Estacao Brigadeiro
metro stop is two and a half blocks southeast.
The Praca da Se central square area, where the Sao Paulo Cathedral and the Palace of
Justice are located, is a 10-minute drive northeast and can be reached by metro in about 25 minutes. Ibirapuera
Park is a five-minute drive south while the Morumbi soccer stadium is a 20-minute
drive southwest of the hotel. The Sao Paulo International Airport is a 35-minute
drive northeast of the hotel.
Rooms
Spacious apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes
The 312 rooms at the Transamerica are housed in a narrow 30-floor tower, and many have great views of the city, particularly those on higher floors. Rooms are clean, simple, and quiet, with a largely white, beige, and brown color palette, and have laminate hardwood floors and white cotton bedding accented with red throws. All rooms feature kitchenettes with sinks, coffee/tea facilities, microwaves, and mini-fridges as well as desks, safes, hairdryers, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs with satellite
and international channels. Most rooms also have sofas. Rooms lack irons, but there's a pressing room on the third floor for guests to use. Wi-Fi is free, though the signal is occasionally spotty. Rooms are in good
condition overall, but some have dated carpets and feel like they could use a refresh.
Features
A freeform pool with a waterfall and a rooftop bar with superb views are the highlights.
The freeform outdoor pool with a built-in waterfall is arguably the best of the Transamerica's many features. There's also a sauna and a sizable
fitness center with plenty of treadmills and weight-training equipment. Situated on the
hotel's top floor, the View Bar offers sweeping views of the city. The bar serves cocktails, wine, beer, and light fare, and also offers live music some of the time.
The on-site La Fortuna Ristorante serves a largely Brazilian menu, with a breakfast buffet
(not included in room rates), lunch buffet, happy hour snacks, and an a la carte dinner menu. The dining
space is modern, and has an adjacent garden with a waterfall. The hotel also
has meeting rooms, laundry facilities, bell and concierge services, and
valet parking (for a fee).
