Scene

A modern, upscale boutique hotel originally designed as a residential complex

This upscale boutique hotel that opened in 2014 was originally planned as a condo complex, and its spacious suites and event space attract a diverse mix of guests, including those attending corporate retreats and weddings. The small oval lobby is modern and stylish, with nice upholstered furniture in vibrant colors like ocean blue and fuchsia. A striking, modern chandelier explodes with color from tangled strands of glass in green, yellow, blue, and fuchsia. Large pieces of modern photography add more color, as does the round fuchsia rug on the gray tile floors with black granite stripes. The modest wood front desk has a white marble top. Despite the comfortable seating and colorful ambience, guests don’t tend to linger in the lobby. They usually register and retire to their suites or venture out to explore the quaint town that’s filled with history.

Location

In historic downtown Saratoga Springs, one block off Broadway

The Pavilion Grand Hotel is located in an expansive brick building called Pavilion Square on Lake Avenue in downtown Saratoga Springs, one block from Broadway, which serves as the town’s main thoroughfare. Restaurants, boutiques, and several other hotels are nearby -- some as close as a one-minute walk. The Saratoga Springs City Center events complex is a five-minute walk away, and a cinema complex is within a six-minute. A bus stop is about a two-minute walk from the hotel. Skidmore College is a five-minute drive (20 minutes away by bus). America’s oldest race track, the Saratoga Springs Race Course, is a six-minute drive from the hotel. The Saratoga Springs Casino and Hotel, Performing Arts Center, and Saratoga Springs Spa State Park are about 10-minutes away. Saratoga Springs National Historical Park and its Revolutionary War battlefields are about a 20-minute drive away, and the Six Flags Great Escape theme park is a 25-minute drive. Albany International Airport is 35 minutes away, and the city’s Amtrak station is a seven-minute drive (nine minutes away by bus).

Rooms

Large, condo-style suites with sleeper sofas, room service, full kitchens, washer/dryer sets, and 55-inch TVs

The Pavilion Grand Hotel's 49 apartment-like suites have nine-foot ceilings and lots of windows that let in ample natural light. Even the Signature Studio Suites are exceptionally spacious at 600 square feet, and most other one- and two-bedroom suites range from 750 to 1,000 square feet. The bi-level Penthouse Suites encompass 1,700 to 2,300 square feet and include two bedrooms, three bathrooms, and balconies or beautiful rooftop gardens. There are several suite options, but the decor varies only slightly -- most are painted in soft earth tones, but some have gold accent walls behind the beds. The white bedding has brightly colored throws and bolster pillows. Carpeting is light gray and beige in a striped pattern, and the kitchen areas have laminate wood-plank floors. Kitchen cabinets match the dark finish of the wood furniture, and the upholstered sleeper sofas and chairs are mostly done in light earth tones. Even the smaller Signature Studio Suites have full kitchens with stainless steel appliances that include full-size refrigerators, microwaves, and dishwashers. Larger suites have ovens and bars with stools, while the Studios have stovetops and no bars. But, even the smaller suites have dining tables. The units also have washer/dryers. Bathrooms are large and similarly decorated, with distinctive, brownish-gray tile floors, and dark-wood vanities with white acrylic tops. Shower/tub combos are framed by white tile and have rainfall showerheads. All suites include Keurig coffeemakers, 55-inch flat-screen TVs, robes, safes, and free Wi-Fi.

Features

Full-service spa, fitness center, event space, concierge services, upscale restaurant, and valet parking

This residential-style hotel offers a nice array of amenities, including the full-service All Good Things spa, which offers salon services, a yoga studio, massages, and body treatments. Massages also can be arranged in the suites. The fitness studio has several cardio- and weight-training machines. There are two restaurants in the building complex. The TC Paris Patisserie serves breakfast and lunch with a focus on coffee drinks and fresh-baked French pastries. Fish at 30 Lake, which opened mid-2016, focuses on fresh seafood. Meeting and event spaces include a 1,600-square-foot, rooftop garden. A computer station with internet access and a printer in the lobby serves as the business center, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. Concierge services include valet dry cleaning and laundry, and parking is valet for a reasonable fee. Free parking can usually be found on the streets as well or in a nearby municipal lot. The lobby has an ATM and free fruit-infused water.
