Steigenberger Airport Hotel Amsterdam

Housed in a large and modern building, the Steigenberger Airport Hotel resembles all of the other glass and concrete structures that surround it in this industrial area of Schiphol Airport. A spacious and fairly plain lobby spans the length of the ground floor, where large Pop art pieces adorning the walls and fresh bursts of green plants provide a colorful respite in a sea of neutral hues. Common areas in the hotel vary in decor, from the relaxed sports bar that combines sports memorabilia with a hint of steampunk style, to the contemporary coffee and wine lounge, where large copper vases sprouting greens line blonde wood shelving. The hotel attracts many business travelers with its numerous conference spaces and relative proximity to the business district, and the vibe is correspondingly corporate.

The hotel is situated in a large, modern building on a busy road in the industrial area of Schiphol airport. The arrivals and departures gate is about a 10-minute drive away, and the hotel operates a free shuttle bus service that run regularly. The hotel is right by the Amsterdamse Bos, a lovely, large park with several lakes and running routes. There is a bus stop right outside of the hotel serving several lines. Amsterdam's business district and World Trade Center is close by, at about a 10-minute drive or 30 minutes via public transportation. The hotel also operates a shuttle service (with an additional fee) to the city center, which can be reached in about 25 minutes.

Rooms are clean, comfortable, and simply furnished in a minimalist style with contemporary blonde wood furniture that complements white walls and crisp white beds illuminated by lots of natural light. There is little decor besides rust orange accents like lighting fixtures and bed throws, plus a glassed-in strip of contemporary art above the bed. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, free Wi-Fi, and glass-topped writing desks. Upgraded options add Nespresso machines and minibars with free soft drinks, and the spacious suites have separate living rooms (plus free alcohol in the minibars). Bathrooms are elegantly styled with cream tiling, wooden furnishings, and black marble vanities, and are equipped with shower/tub combos (Senator Suite has separate walk-in shower and soaking tub), heated floors, and fluffy bathrobes and slippers.

Dining options at the hotel include an Italian restaurant as well as a relaxed sports bar and a wine and coffee lounge, plus there's a lovely outdoor patio with seating in the courtyard. The full-service spa offers a variety of treatments, and has a steam room, sauna, solarium, and sanarium, as well as an indoor pool flanked by comfortable lounge chairs. The modestly sized fitness center is equipped with several modern machines. The hotel also has 15 conference rooms and can accommodate up to 620 guests. Parking is available for a fee, though it is free for electric cars. There is a free shuttle bus to the airport, as well as shuttle service (with fee) to the city center.
