Bottom Line

The Southwest Inn at Sedona is a 28-room, mid-range boutique hotel off Highway 89A, Sedona's main drag. Guests are well-situated: within walking distance of shops
and restaurants, and a short drive from downtown Sedona and hiking trails. Overall decor is a bit dated, and the pink and green color palette is less than appealing. However there are some lovely wood features, an outdoor dining area with beautiful views of the red rocks, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Guest rooms have flat-screen TVs and kiva-style fireplaces; some have private patios with red rocks views. Breakfast is free and highly rated. Some rooms
may have interior and exterior noise, and there is no elevator to get to the
upstairs breakfast room. It may also be worth considering the similarly priced Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa just a minute down the road, which has nicer decor.

Scene

A boutique hotel with some dated decor and well-kept attractive grounds

The Pueblo architecture of this small hotel is surrounded by well-kept gardens of green brush plants and cacti, with stone pathways leading to a fountain, and red rock views all around. Inside the decor is a bit tired. The lobby is a mish-mash of pink, brown, and green furniture and paint that falls short of Southwest-chic. However there are lovely wood ceiling beams in the lobby area and comfortable brown leather chairs. Likewise, the breakfast room has a cozy fireplace and beautiful wood chairs, but the overall look is quite basic. Red rocks can be seen through some of the windows at the
hotel and from the simple breakfast patio area. Local Sedona-style art is displayed on the property. Guests are tourists looking to explore downtown Sedona or hike in the nearby parks.

Location

Walking distance or a short drive from Sedona restaurants and hiking/biking trails

The Southwest Inn at Sedona is on Highway
89A, the lifeblood of Sedona, and at nighttime, the surrounding area is lively
and well-lit. Local shops and restaurants are within a few minutes' walking distance, and
downtown Sedona and Sedona Airport are both about an eight-minute drive away. Guests can explore hiking and biking trails at Slide
Rock State Park, Devil’s Bridge Trail, and Coffee Pot Rock, all within a 10- to 15-minute drive.

Rooms

Outdated decor, with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and fireplaces

Even though the “Sedona Dream” pillow-top
mattresses in each guest room receive great reviews, the simple white or brown bedding is dull. The overall look is dated and dowdy, with pink walls, dark green carpeting, reddish-brown leather armchairs, and yellowish drapes. The wood beams in some rooms are nice, and each has free Wi-Fi, a 40-inch flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, coffeemaker, and kiva-style fireplace. Some rooms
have gorgeous views of the Sedona red rocks from private patios. Bathrooms are white and beige, with Tarocco toiletries, large sink areas, and shower/tub combos; some have rainfall showerheads and jetted
tubs. Outside traffic noise at night, and thin walls may be issues for some guests.

Features

Small pool and hot tub, compact gym, and business center

The hotel has a seasonally heated outdoor pool with a waterfall feature, and a year-round outdoor hot tub -- both with views of the red rocks in the distance. The breakfast room
serves a free daily breakfast -- with burritos -- that receives excellent reviews and can be enjoyed on a simple patio with great views. There is a very small fitness room with a few cardio machines and some free weights. The business center is in a small closet-like space, with a single desktop computer and printer. There is free
Wi-Fi throughout the property. The hotel also has concierge
services and offers discounts to local restaurants and attractions. This hotel
is pet-friendly, but only allows small pets on request.
