Conrad Centennial Singapore is part of the Millenia Singapore shopping and business development in Marina Bay, and is surrounded by a massive shopping complex. Owned by Hilton, this business hotel differentiates itself from competitors with a 24-hour international buffet restaurant that's become a local institution. Rooms are large and have big marble bathrooms and views of the skyline. Despite the need for some renovations and updates in rooms, not to mention added fees for Wi-Fi, this hotel is among the city's more popular luxury choices. The newer Sofitel So, also located downtown, is more stylish, but has spottier service and lacks the Conrad's free on-site car park. The Shangri-La is a comparable option with free parking, but with a less convenient location.
Scene
Large business hotel with spacious marble lobby and lots of art
The hotel makes a grand impression from its towering entrance right through to its a marble-covered lobby where a professional pianist plays classical music during the day. A spiral pattern on the marble floor flows into an open spiral staircase, as if they were part of a single nautilus. This visual effect continuing up the steps to the upper floor, where gold rings on the ceiling above fan out from a spiraling chandelier, all in perfect alignment. Hundreds of pieces of modern art and Asian artifacts on display throughout the airy common areas. Although it's a business hotel, the Conrad attracts corporate travelers and tourists in roughly equal proportions.
Location
In the Marina Bay area, next to Suntec City
The Conrad Centennial Singapore is located in the Marina Bay area, within walking distance of the heart of downtown, Suntec City, the Parliament, and St. Andrew's Cathedral. The property has easy access to public transport from an MRT station right outside and the City Hall station is less than a 15-minute walk away (with numerous bus stops even closer). Business travelers can get to most destinations in the Central Business District in just 10 minutes by car, and popular attractions such as Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay Sands casino are within walking distance from the hotel. It's a 15-minute drive to Changi International Airport, or anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes via public transportation.
Rooms
Large rooms with dated decor and excellent views, plus huge marble bathrooms
The Conrad's 507 rooms span 31 floors of the hotel, and many of them have excellent city views. Even the smallest rooms are large by Singapore standards and all come with 46-inch flat-screen TVs with home theater systems. There are many welcoming little extras, including black-out curtains, a pillow menu with 16 types to satisfy all kinds of sleepers, and the plush Conrad Centennial teddy bear and rubber ducky, both of which can be taken home (for free). However, work desks and scuffed light wood furniture are showing their age, and the peach-tinted palette looks a bit out of date. The marble bathrooms are big and have soaking tubs with separate glass walk-in showers, but the showerheads are old and could use an update.
Features
Pool, spa, fine-dining, and numerous 24-hour facilities, including buffet and fitness center
The Conrad has numerous 24-hour facilities, the most famous of which is the buffet at Oscar's, with extravagant spreads of international food that change throughout the day (marked by breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper). For more upscale regional cuisine, Golden Peony serves Cantonese specialties, dim sum, and a large selection of wine, and there is a dress code. The Terrace has salads, sandwiches, and other grab-and-go options, while the lobby lounge serves afternoon high tea by day and cigars and cocktails with live music at night. The outdoor pool is large and has a sun deck with lounge chairs and views of Marina Bay. A 24-hour fitness center has modern equipment including exercise bicycles, cross-trainers, Technogym treadmills, and free weights. There's also a spa with the usual massages and treatments, but it lacks saunas and steam facilities. Business amenities include a small 24-hour business center with a Mac, a printer, and an industrial-sized document shredder. Event venues include multiple banquet halls and conference rooms along with the pillar-less Grand Ballroom, with a capacity for 450 people.
