Village Hotel Changi by Far East Hospitality

The Far East Hospitality brand has a wide array of hotel styles to choose from within its hotel empire -- some hotels are chic and modern, while other hotels haven't quite kept up. Village Hotel Changi falls just within the chic and modern category. The exteriors feature a large glass, atrium-style entrance, with scattered colorful balconies along the side of the building. Interiors range from completely modern in the lobby to more traditional and understated in the restaurants and bar areas. Enormous gold and silver lights hang from the ceiling. Outside areas are peaceful and relaxing, with surrounding forests, fish ponds on the grounds, and two refreshing swimming pools; the rooftop pool offers spectacular panoramic views of the sea. The hotel seems to host everyone from families to couples to business travelers. 

The hotel is located in the quiet, laid-back Changi Village, popular for its nearby location to the Changi International Airport. It's situated on a busy boardwalk, along with a wide selection of restaurants and bars. The Changi Village Hawkers Centre is right outside the hotel for a wide selection of various Asian-style street foods. The Changi Beach Park is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, as well as the ferry terminal, where both Pulau Ubin and Chek Jawa Wetlands are a short boat ride away. The location is quite far out from many of Singapore's tourist sites, and while there are bus stops close to the hotel there are no nearby subway stations. For travelers interested in aviation, the Singapore Aviation Academy is nine minutes on foot from the hotel. The Changi Business Park is a 15-minute cab drive, or an hour on the bus. It's a 15-minute drive to the Changi International Airport, and the hotel offers a free hourly shuttle service (though prior booking is required).

The 380 guest rooms at Village Hotel Changi by Far East Hospitality are bright and modern, featuring either garden or sea views. Decor is minimalist, with bold pastel color accents. Wood veneer furniture and white linens look cheap, though hand-crafted light fixtures and artwork add a touch of interest. The look is uniform across all room categories -- with slight changes, such as carpeted flooring in the suites. Designed to appeal to both leisure and business travelers, all rooms feature flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, minibars, safes, tea/coffee-making facilities, work desks, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are simple with modern fittings as well as shower/tub combos in the Superior and Deluxe Rooms. Separate walk-in showers and hot tubs are provided in the suites. Bathrobes, slippers, hairdryers, irons and ironing boards, and toiletries are provided. The Executive and Junior Suites offer additional space, though no extra amenities. Twin beds are pushed together to make a double bed. 

Like most hotels this size, the Village Hotel Changi by Far East Hospitality offers a fairly wide selection of on-site features to compliment its location near the airport and beach. La Cantina, on the eighth floor, serves Italian cuisine and the dining room overlooks Changri Beach. Chou Bei, on the lobby level, specializes in Japanese cuisine, including seafood and sushi. Saltwater Cafe offers a more relaxed atmosphere with buffet-style dining -- including the free buffet breakfast. Vau Wine Bar is a sophisticated space, with large open windows, high ceilings, grand piano, and carpeted flooring.

The Creek Pool is located on ground level, suitable in size for families wanting to take a quick dip. The grander Infinity Pool is on the rooftop, with panoramic views of the beach -- though limited seating areas and no poolside bar. The hotel offers a small fitness center with cardio- and weight-training equipment, free weights, and flat-screen TVs. There's also the Stella Wellness Centre for an array of spa treatments. There are seven indoor and outdoor function venues, catering for small- to medium-size events, as well as an Executive Lounge with business services. Laundry service (for a fee), 24-hour reception, concierge service, free parking, and free airport shuttle are added extras. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
