Recanto Cataratas Thermas Resort & Convention

This upper-middle-range resort is set on extensive well-maintained grounds swathed in trim green lawns and peppered with tall palm trees. Attractive architecture features angular roofs topping white buildings, while interiors are sleek and modern, with contemporary furnishings, gleaming tile floors, and plenty of natural light streaming through large windows. The hotel's Aranda Restaurant is an impressive high-ceilinged space with a wooden roof and large chandeliers hanging above a sea of tables and chairs. Large windows surround, making for a bright and airy space where architecture takes center stage and decor is minimal. Clientele here tends to be mainly Brazilian, followed by tourists from neighboring countries. The majority are leisure tourists -- both couples and families with kids -- though the hotel also attracts business travelers with its conference facilities.

The hotel is situated in Foz do Iguaçu, a city right on the Paraguayan border that's a base for many tourists visiting the Iguazu Falls, the main attraction in the region. The property is located about a 10-minute drive east of the city center. There's not much in the immediate area, but the hotel is off of a main road, making it easy to get around by car. The world famous Iguazu Falls are about a 40-minute drive away. Another popular tourist destination in the area is the Three Borders Landmark, which marks the borders of Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil as well as the junction of the Iguazu and Parana rivers. The airport is around a 20-minute drive from the hotel.

The hotel offers spacious suites and apartments, all featuring pleasant contemporary decor that includes wooden floors and sleek furniture. The style differs a bit between the different categories; some add colorful accents to mostly staid neutrals, like mint-hued walls or patterned wallpaper, striped bed runners, and art on the walls. All rooms feature flat-screen TVs, minibars, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi (though it can be weak in some rooms), but they lack tea/coffee-making facilities. Premium Suites are the largest option at 700 square feet (65 square meters) and they have living areas. Bathrooms are sleek and modern, featuring a mix of white and wood-like tiles. They're fairly large and equipped with showers, while suites add whirlpool tubs. Hairdryers and a solid set of individual toiletries are provided. All units open onto private balconies, but they're not furnished. Views overlook the lovely pool or garden grounds. Past guests have complained about interior noise. 

The hotel is equipped with lots of features catering to both couples and families with kids. A large outdoor thermal pool has both shallow and deep sections, and it's surrounded by umbrella-shaded loungers and cabanas. It has a swim-up bar, fountains, and other water features. There's also a smaller indoor thermal pool and hot tubs. 

There are two restaurants serving local and international fare. There's also a British-style pub with bowling lanes, as well as a poolside bar, a lobby cafe, and a night club. Buffet breakfast is included in rates, and room service is also available. 

Wellness features include an attractive spa that offers a variety of treatments, as well as whirlpool tubs, a relaxation area, and a sauna. The fitness center is situated in a large, bright, and airy space and offers a good variety of machines. Large windows overlook the pool. There are also sports courts on the grounds, including tennis and soccer.

Families are catered to with a large kids' club and entertainment/activities aimed at children. Other features include a game room, a business center, meeting and event space, and conference facilities that attract business travelers. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
