Vacationing Brazilian and other South American families make up the majority of guests at the Hotel Costa Norte Massaguacu, located along the Brazilian coast between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, on the Massaguaçu stretch of beach north of Caraguatatuba. The 51 rooms here are simply furnished and have sea-facing balconies. On-site amenities are plentiful and include a pool with a swim-up bar, kids' club, kids' pool, game room, and restaurant that serves an extensive breakfast buffet. This abundance of features is especially welcome considering the hotel's beachfront location is some driving distance from any commercial center. It's also worth noting that the beach immediately in front of the hotel is a fishing beach, rather than a swimming beach, but there are swimming areas within a short walk or drive.
Scene
Family-friendly hotel with laid-back ambiance
Popular with vacationing families from Sao Paulo, the Hotel Costa Norte Massaguacu has a laid-back, family-friendly vibe. The three-story, sunflower-colored structure looks simple and motel-like from the outside; the main doors open into to a plain but light lobby with a couple of seating areas that include plush couches, magazines, and a TV. This simple and somewhat tired decor continues throughout the property, including the rooms, giving the hotel a laid-back, unpretentious vibe that fits its relaxed beach vacation purpose.
Location
Outside the touristy city of Caraguatatuba, right by the beach
The hotel is located along the coast outside Caraguatatuba, also known as Caragua, a seaside city east of Sao Paulo. The hotel itself is right across a busy highway from the the beach, and there isn't a much commerce within walking distance; it's also worth noting that the beach across from the hotel isn't ideal for swimmers, and the closest swimming beaches are a short walk or drive away. Guests wanting to take advantage of the resort town's shopping and dining will also need to drive five minutes into town. The nearest airport is Ubatuba Airport, an hour's drive away, and it takes a bit over two hours to reach Sao Paulo by car.
