Bottom Line

The mid-range Laguna Park Hotel is a 365-room property a five-minute walk from the beach and Black Sea. Rooms are spacious and come with minibars, flat-screen TVs, and balconies, but there's a charge for in-room Wi-Fi and the look is dated. The hotel also features a large outdoor pool with a poolside bar and an attached kids' pool with a waterslide. There's also an animation team providing all-day entertainment, a full-service spa, and a buffet restaurant. All-inclusive rates are available, but food and drink quality can both vary, and everything Wi-Fi to gym access will cost extra. The nearby Iberostar has more restaurants and slightly nicer style at similar rates, but Laguna Park has more activities for children, including an amusement center with bungees and trampolines.

Laguna Park Hotel

Scene

Casual family-friendly property near the beach

Laguna Park Hotel is a casual property with a lively vibe, similar to many of its many budget-holiday neighbors. It's a well-landscaped property with lawns, bushes, and trees, and a large freeform outdoor pool that has a rectangular section connected to a freeform area with a mushroom-shaped water sprayer. The emphasis at the hotel is on outdoor spaces and activities, so the interiors are uninspiring and a bit dated. The lobby, for example, has tile floors, older framed pictures hanging on the walls, red runner carpet, and bulky leather chairs. Still, it remains a popular choice in Sunny Beach, in part due to its central location. The hotel draws families with children -- mostly from the Russia and the U.K. -- thanks to the many kid-friendly amenities, including a children's pool with a water slide, playgrounds, a kids' club, and an amusement center with bungees and trampolines. Note that while rooms are non-smoking, smoking is allowed in some outdoor areas of the hotel. Also, like many of the hotels in Sunny Beach, the atmosphere borders on loud, with music blasting throughout most of the day and plenty of children running all about.

Laguna Park Hotel is located a five- to 10-minute walk from the Black Sea and the beach in an area with numerous restaurants, bars, and supermarkets. One of the major sights in this region -- the ancient Thracian settlement of Nessebar -- is a 10-minute drive from the resort. A bus also runs to Nessebar from Flower Street. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Nessebar features the sixth-century Hagia Sophia Church and14th-century Church of Christ Pantokrator and Church of St. John Aliturgetos. Burgas Airport is a 25-minute drive and Burgas city center is a half-hour drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Spacious but dated rooms with large balconies but no coffeemakers

The 365 rooms, studios, apartments, and maisonettes at Laguna Park are spread over several wings -- the multi-room configurations are especially popular for those with families. Rooms are spacious and get decent natural light through large windows. All have balconies or terraces, and some have pool views. However, the decor is dated and dark, and rooms have a beige-and-brown color palette with wood furnishings and trim. Despite the difference in floor plans and layouts, all rooms look nearly identical, though some have slightly nicer patterned soft furnishings with just a bit of shimmer (others have dowdier accents like brown bedspreads). Some rooms feel a bit under-decorated, with bare walls. All rooms have desks, minibars, and 22-inch flat-screen TVs with satellite and English channels, and some have sofabeds. Rooms do not have coffeemakers or safes, but safe deposit boxes are available at the front desk. Wi-Fi is available for a fee in the rooms, though it's free in the lobby. Bathrooms are clean and well-lit, and offer hairdryers, make-up mirrors, and walk-in showers or shower/tub combos.

Features

Two outdoor pools and children's pool, activities, animation team, and kids' club

Laguna Park Hotel offers a wide array of leisure facilities and activities, with a big focus on children. The main outdoor pool has a rectangular area that's good for swimming laps and a freeform section with a mushroom-shaped water sprayer, plus plenty of lounge chairs. A second pool has a more relaxing feel, and also has a deck with lounge chairs, and both pools have poolside bars. There's also a kids' pool with a long waterslide, plus two playgrounds, a supervised kids' club (ages 4 to 12)  with arts, costumes, quizzes, and games, and a colorful amusement center with inflatable castles, bungees, trampolines, a labyrinth, and play houses.

An animation team leads games and activities in and around the pool, including volleyball and water gymnastics. The team can also organize Bulgarian language lessons, Zumba dancing, table tennis, darts, archery, miniature golf, volleyball, and billiards (for a fee). At night, the team holds a children's mini-disco and performs music, dancing, comedy, magic, and folklore in a 350-seat amphitheater.

All-inclusive plans are available that include all meals and beverages, except premium liquors. The main restaurant has an open-air terrace with pool views, and serves hot and cold buffets with vegetarian and kids' items. The fare is mostly European, with twice-weekly dinners of Bulgarian, Asian, or Mediterranean specialties. It's worth noting that food and drink both get mixed reviews. Along with the two pool bars and a lobby bar, there's a snack bar that serves pizzas, hot dogs, burgers, and sandwiches. The hotel serves a breakfast buffet (for a fee for those not opting for all-inclusive packages). Offerings include a cooked-to-order egg station, hot meats, cheeses, cold cuts, and baked goods.

The full-service spa offers a wide range of massages, including treatments with honey or chocolate. The space also features a hydromassage tub, a wooden sauna, a Turkish bath, and a steam room. There's also a fitness center, which costs extra to use and has a handful of weight and cardio machines. Other features include meeting rooms, a 24-hour front desk, and parking (for a fee). Wi-Fi is free in the lobby, though there have been complaints of low speeds and connectivity issues. For more reliable internet, there are computers in the lobby.
