Scene
Stylish and charming Art Deco hotel
The three-story Art Deco Ca' Pisani Hotel should appeal to design enthusiasts and tourists looking for a slightly out of the ordinary experience from their Venice hotel. This beautiful renovated 14th-century palace has marble steps and potted trees at its entrance, and big glass doors open onto a lobby featuring exposed brick, polished tile floors, and charming wooden beams. Common areas are cozy and quiet, and filled with interesting decorative touches and furnishings from the Art Deco period that have been collected by the owners at antique markets over the years. The boarded roof terrace with loungers, cactus plants, and cotton canopies, offers views over the rooftops of the city.
Location
In the arty Dorsoduro district, close to two Vaporetto stops and within walking distance of major sights
The hotel is located in a fairly quiet, residential area in the Dorsoduro district of the city. Away from the crowds and overblown prices of San Marco, Dorsoduro is great for getting a flavor of the real Venice, and is popular with students and artists. Art lovers in particular will likely appreciate that the Guggenheim Collection is within a five-minute walk, and the Punta della Dogana art museum is within a 10-minute walk. The Zattere and Accademia Vaporetto stops are both within easy walking distance of Ca' Pisani as well, as is Accademia Bridge. It's also possible to take a break from public transport and walk to most of Venice's major sights from the hotel -- it's a 15-minute walk to St. Mark's Square.
Rooms
Quirky 1930s furniture and bathrooms with jetted tubs
The Ca' Pisani Hotel's Art Deco design theme is strongly evident in the rooms, which feature flamboyant orange armchairs, polished-wood bed frames, quirky animal print rugs, and blocks of color on the walls. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars (Deluxe Rooms and above get free soft drinks) and free Wi-Fi. The spacious bathrooms all have jetted tubs -- some combined with showers, some with the showers separate (separate showers in the Junior Suites are separated from the rest of the bathroom only by a shower curtain). The standard Deco rooms can be quite small, so it's worth considering an upgrade.
Features
Nice roof terrace and Turkish steam room
In the warmer months, the Ca' Pisani Hotel's furnished roof terrace makes a great feature. And the Turkish steam room is a nice alternative place to relax when the weather's not so hot. Guests can use a nearby gym for free. The free breakfast is excellent and for those who don't want to venture out for dinner, there's an on-site restaurant, La Rivista. It features an original 1940s bar and serves modern Venetian dishes.
