Hotel Giorgione

This hotel is housed in a three-story 18th-century building that was previously a candy warehouse. It's named after the Venetian painter of the same name, and some of his works are on display in the hotel. With those two facts in mind, it's perhaps not surprising that the hotel, overall, relies on its history to inform its style -- for better or worse. Guests enter the lobby through double glass and wood doors, and interiors are typically, exuberantly Venetian. Details include abundant antiques, Murano glass light fixtures and accessories, and rich drapery and fabrics. White upholstered sofas and chairs topped by velvet pillows and throws provide plenty of places where guests can gather, and the hotel has an intimate vibe. The highlight is the inner courtyard with a spa pool. In warmer months, it's a pleasant place for breakfast in the morning or drinks in the evening. The style throughout is classic and may be old-fashioned for some, but all sorts of guests are seen here, including couples, families, groups, and individuals. 

This hotel is located on a small, quiet street in the district of Cannaregio, which is rich in monuments, shops, restaurants, and bars. This is a solid choice for those who want to be near Venice's most popular sights, but not surrounded by hordes of tourists the second they leave their hotel. Guests can walk to Piazza San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale in 15 minutes, and the famous Rialto Bridge is about five minutes away on foot. Ca' D'Oro palace on the Grand Canal is less than five minutes away on foot, and the Basilica of San Marco is about a 10-minute walk. Expect about a 20-minute drive from the taxi stand next to Venice's train station to reach Venice's Marco Polo Airport.

As is typical in Venice, many of the rooms here are rather small, and the look skews historical, verging on dated in many instances. Still, it doesn't seem to bother many of the hotel's previous guests, as the traditional style is mostly well kept throughout the property. Decor varies, but all rooms feature a classic Venetian ambiance with rich fabrics, high ceilings, Murano glass chandeliers, and antique furniture. The upholstery on couches and the painted headboards do have a tendency to look a bit outdated and kitschy, rather than elegant. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, air-conditioning, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Tiled bathrooms come with a tub or shower, toiletries, hairdryers, and bidets. Some rooms have a terrace or balcony, with views of the street or garden. Prestige Rooms are larger, with a living area and a bathroom on the first level, plus a bedroom upstairs in a loft. Garden Rooms overlook the garden and have direct access to the hotel's saltwater whirlpool. 

In the center of the hotel is a multi-purpose courtyard with a saltwater spa pool. It's a lovely space with greenery and flowers atop a brick deck. Breakfast is served here each morning in the warmer months, followed by lunch and snacks during the day. The pool is open during the day, and there is poolside cafe seating shaded by umbrellas. In the evening, the space is lit by candles for a romantic setting, though dinner service isn't offered. Garden rooms have direct access to this space. The hotel's meeting room can accommodate up to 24 people for social or business gatherings, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. There's also a room with a billiards table.
