Kette Hotel is a decent mid-range hotel housed in a 16th-century palazzo. 63 guest rooms have air-conditioning and minibars, but lack sufficient electrical outlets and decor looks faded and worn in some areas. Canal views and flat-screen TVs are nice extras. Free breakfast is served in an interior room. Unusual for older hotels in Venice, this property has two elevators, which makes getting heavy luggage up to the rooms easy. Compare rates at the nearby Hotel San Moise, which has slightly cheaper rooms in the same brilliant, walkable neighborhood.
Scene
Lively tourist hotel with elegant, quintessentially Venetian interiors
Kette Hotel has a typical classic Venetian style, with interiors featuring dark wood and stained glass. The building looks quaint from the street with its dark coral colored walls and shuttered windows. Inside, the lobby has a glass roof, golden pillars, and oil reproductions of Renaissance paintings. The geometrically patterned marble floors are a nice touch, and the lounge is full of Murano glass. The boat entrance is particularly splendid and has views out onto Rio de la Vesta. There's one computer in the lounge and free newspapers are displayed on a round coat stand. The hotel has a lively atmosphere thanks to its prime position on the water and is popular with couples who want to be able to walk to most of the major tourist sights in minutes.
Location
On a quiet side street, a short walk to St Marks Square
Kette Hotel is located in a quiet street just behind a busy shopping area, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. It's a one-minute walk to Teatro La Fenice, a theater which stages concerts from Beethoven, Wagner, and Stravinsky. The Bridge of Sighs is a five-minute walk away while getting to the Rialto Bridge takes closer to 10 minutes. It's a three-minute walk from St Mark's Square and its namesake basilica, from where the airport can be reached by vaporetto (water bus) in just over an hour.
Rooms
Traditional cozy rooms with Murano chandeliers, some with canal views
The Kette's 63 air-conditioned rooms are classically furnished with Murano glass lamps, plush linens, and romantic canopy beds. Framed artwork of Venetian scenes hang the walls. Some of the rooms have gorgeous white pillars that add character and charm; the windows are framed by thick curtains. Larger rooms also have sofas. The elegant rooms mix traditional decor with modern comforts such as flat-screen TVs, minibars, hairdryers, and safes. Wi-Fi is free, but the signal can be weak in some rooms and outlets are hard to come by. The bathrooms are big, especially for such an old building, and most have bathtubs and bidets. Some rooms have canal views and windows open, and while the hotel's location on a side street makes it relatively quiet, guests should expect some street noise. Some of the bedding looks faded and stains can be spotted.
Features
Ample free breakfast in a cosy room with festoon curtains
The hotel serves a free and ample continental breakfast of cold cuts, cheese, baked goods, and fresh fruit in a tiny breakfast room with festoon curtains and no exterior facing windows. The room can fill up fast so guests sometimes have to use the tables in the small bar. Other on-site features include free Wi-Fi, and there's a PC in the lobby for guests without their own devices.
