The 121-room Country Inn & Suites Virginia Beach Oceanfront is a two-and-a-half-pearl chain property directly on the Virginia Beach boardwalk. Simple, homey rooms and suites have small balconies with fantastic ocean views, though don't expect cutting edge style. This hotel has a dimly lit indoor pool and a fitness room, plus garage parking and a free hot breakfast buffet in a spacious, casual dining area. Nice freebies include coffee and cookies all day, plus Wi-Fi. The rate here is slightly higher than nearby options like the Econo Lodge on the Ocean, which has an outdoor pool.
Scene
Basic value hotel with a great oceanfront location
From the outside, the Country Inn & Suites looks like any
other boxy beach hotel. The concrete structure stands eight floors tall, and the back of the hotel is
separated from the boardwalk by a small strip of landscaping and lawn. The
lobby is warm and welcoming, with an open front desk, coffee
and cookies available all day, an entire wall of books that guests can borrow, a handful of
lounge areas, and a chess table. The lobby space is noticeably more contemporary and inviting than other parts of the property, and renovations are on-going. The dimly lit indoor pool area is fine enough place to relax, and is popular with the many families who pass through. Business groups that utilize the on-site meeting space and tourist couples also make up the clientele.
Location
Directly on the beach and boardwalk
This Country Inn & Suites is situated along touristy Atlantic Avenue with its many shops, bars, and restaurants. There is
an ice cream parlor next door, a convenience store across the street, and the
boardwalk and beach are behind the hotel. An area shuttle stops right in
front of the hotel that runs up and down Atlantic Avenue during peak season. The Virginia Beach Convention & Visitor Bureau is
about a six-minute drive from the hotel and the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center
is about a 10-minute drive away. Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens, both family-friendly attractions, are about 70 minutes away by car, and it takes 25 minutes to reach Norfolk International Airport.
Rooms
Simple, spacious rooms with great views from balconies
Each room has a lovely ocean view from its small balcony or patio, a real highlight for what are otherwise run-of-the-mill, homey accommodations. The glass door leading
out to the balcony or patio occupies an entire wall and lets in lots of natural light. The look throughout is a bit dated, with mid-tone wood furniture, sage green carpets, and soft yellow walls hung with generic wall art. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, safes, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi as well as a desk with a
rolling office chair and thick, comfortable mattresses on the beds. Studio Suites
feature sofa beds situated in a partially separated living area and other suites have a separate
living area with its own TV. Bathrooms are basic and bland, with small
countertops around the sink, but all have shower/tub combos.
Features
Free hot buffet breakfast, garage parking, fitness center, and indoor pool
There are many freebies at this hotel, including the hot and
cold buffet breakfast (with waffle station), garage parking, coffee and cookies in the lobby, and
access to the indoor heated pool and 24-hour modern fitness room. There is also a
coin-operated laundry area plus meeting, banquet, and business space for events. The hotel is home to a spa/nail salon, though reviews aren't enthusiastic. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
