Bottom Line

Travelers who need lodging for a connecting flight or staying just one night in London will find the Hampton by Hilton at London Gatwick Airport a satisfying, practical choice. The 192-room mid-range property connects to the North Terminal of the airport and has a Starbucks at its entryway. There's also a free self-service breakfast and property-wide Wi-Fi. The is a cheery but windowless fitness center has modern equipment and there's a spacious lounge, a bar, and meeting rooms. The decor is modern but generic, not unusual for an airport hotel. For a property with a livelier, more fashion-forward atmosphere and three restaurants, travelers might want to consider the more upscale Sofitel London Gatwick instead.

Hampton by Hilton London Gatwick Airport

Scene

Comfortable airport hotel attached directly to the terminal

The Hampton by Hilton is a modern hotel in a cube-like masonry building attached to the North Terminal of Gatwick Airport. It primarily attracts business and leisure travelers who need a place to sleep before a connecting flight. It has direct access to the North Terminal via walkways and a free monorail to ferry travelers to Gatwick's South Terminal. There is a Starbucks at the hotel's entrance and a cobalt blue wall with black and white photos of the city. The lobby is spacious and well-lit, with orange-hued lanterns and contemporary patterned carpeting. The dining room resembles a candy store, with its white glossy surfaces and brightly colored panels plus black leather chairs with exposed wood, red carpeting, and a TV. And the mirror-backed bar is all white, with bright pendant lights and a TV. But overall, nothing truly surprises at this typical Hampton outpost.

Location

Inside the airport, a 30-minute express train ride to London

The hotel connects directly to Gatwick Airport's North Terminal via a short walkway, with no need to exit the building. The North Terminal has limited shops and restaurants, but a free monorail takes guests to the busier South Terminal in just a few minutes. From here, guests can catch the Gatwick Express, which takes half an hour to reach London's Victoria Station; slower trains to London St Pancras and other destinations in Southwest England are also available.
