The upper-middle-range Whistler Village Suites combines a central location, renovated rooms, and an excellent amenities package that make up an appealing option for couples and families year round. While it’s not a ski-in, ski-out property, it’s a short walk or free shuttle to ski lifts and restaurants in Whistler Village. Highlights include an indoor/outdoor heated pool, three whirlpools, equipment storage and rentals, fitness center, sauna, two restaurants, and laundry facilities. On-site parking is expensive, however. Renovated in 2014, its 204 spacious rooms and suites feature equipped kitchens, flat-screen TVs, and balconies (some with gorgeous mountain views). Suites have fireplaces and larger units have two bathrooms. Competitive rates make the pet-friendly property a solid choice. For an alternative that's next to a ski lift, consider the upper-middle-range Sundial Boutique Hotel.
Scene
A cozy, lodge-like ski hotel with a spacious lobby and a lively pub
Families flock to this hotel year-round for its outdoor activities and spacious accommodations that include equipped kitchens. It gets especially busy during ski season, as people from all over the world come to Whistler to hit the slopes. The spacious lobby has a cozy, lodge-like ambience, with a stone fireplace, wood beams across the ceiling, and worn brown leather armchairs. It’s in a relatively quiet part of Whistler, but the Brickworks Public House just off the lobby is a lively pub that can get a bit loud at night, as people gather to share their stories from a day on the slopes. It’s a classic watering hole, with exposed brick walls, a long bar, and lots of nooks to enjoy a drink or some pub grub.
Location
In Whistler Village, a short walk to restaurants and ski lifts
The Delta is located in a quieter section of Whistler Village, but it’s still a brief walk to major attractions and most restaurants are only a few minutes away on foot. The Whistler Olympic Plaza and a grocery store are three minutes away on foot, and the Blackcomb Excalibur Gondola and Whistler Conference Centre are about a 10-minute walk. The hotel also operates a free shuttle to the various ski lifts including the Peak 2 Peak Gondola that’s five minutes away by shuttle. It’s a two-hour drive to Vancouver International Airport.
Rooms
Spacious and contemporary, with kitchens, balconies, and free Wi-Fi
A 2014 renovation created contemporary rooms and suites that are tastefully decorated in various shades of white, brown, and beige. Milk chocolate carpet with dark brown oval patterns and espresso accent walls nicely complement the white bedding and blond wood furniture with white acrylic tops. Only 23 of the 207 available units are Mode (standard) Rooms, which offer ample room for comfort despite having equipped kitchenettes with sinks, cabinets, microwaves, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and dishes. The remainder of the units are One- and Two-Bedroom Suites with dining tables and full kitchens that include ranges/ovens, dishwashers, and full-size fridges. The spacious suites also have gas fireplaces and sleeper sofas, and the Two-Bedroom Suites have two full bathrooms as well. Free Wi-Fi, safes, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, and smart desks with several media plug-ins are standard amenities. Suites also feature washer/dryer sets. The spacious bathrooms have the same earth tones motif as the rooms, along with white acrylic roomy vanities. Most rooms feature shower/tub combos with white tiling, but one of the bathrooms in the Two-Bedroom Suite we saw had a large walk-in shower with glass doors. Robes, slippers, and toiletries are provided. Balconies with mountain or village views are standard, too. On the downside, several past guests have reported ambient noise from the hallways and neighboring rooms. Rooms directly above the pub can hear noise late into the evening on crowded nights.
