Bottom Line

Perched on Positano's highest point, the mid-range Conca d'Oro offers spectacular views of the
Amalfi Coast below. Most of its 42 spacious guest rooms have balconies or terraces that overlook the sea. But there's a price to pay
for these exceptional vistas: Guests must climb 100-odd
steps to reach the hotel from the town, a climb some may find challenging. The hotel's restaurant provides a fantastic setting for romantic candlelit dinners on its terrace, and the outdoor hot
tub offers panoramic views. A cold breakfast buffet and Wi-Fi are included in rates. The beach is about a 10-minute descent down the steps, while the town center is about a 15-minute walk from the property. Travelers looking for a hotel that doesn't require as much of a climb could consider the Hotel Villa
Gabrisa located on one of Positano's main roads.

Scene

A sprawling Mediterranean-style villa with ornate decor

Conca
d'Oro is a sprawling pink-and-white Mediterranean-style villa spread
over three levels on a cliff-face overlooking the Amalfi Coast, reachable only via a long flight of steps from the town center. The hotel entrance is
through an arched gateway and up a short flight of stairs. The
reception area is decked out in a very showy style, which some might consider too ornate: The reception counter is painted in white and
gold trim, there are several gilded tables and mirrors, and
gold-framed oil paintings of flowers and fruit hang on the walls.
Several white and gold sofas and armchairs are arranged in a seating
area. The hotel is especially popular with vacationing couples.

Location

Perched on a cliff-face overlooking Positano

Conca
d'Oro is located at the highest point of Positano. Since the hotel is
not accessible by car, be aware that there are a lot of steps to climb -- close to
100 -- which may be a challenge for guests with limited mobility. (Staff will help carry luggage up the steps.) It's an 11-minute walk to Positano town center and its many
shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars. It takes 10 minutes to descend
the steps to get to the beach below. The ferry terminal is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, or an eight-minute drive from Via
Guglielmo Marcon. There are regular ferries to the island of Capri, a
50-minute ride; and it's a 20-minute ride to Amalfi, and one hour and
15 minutes to Salerno. The closest train station is located in
Sorrento, a 30-minute drive away. Other popular tourist destinations
include Ravello and Pompei, both a hour's drive from Positano. The closest
airport is Naples International Airport, about a 75-minute drive away.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with ceramic floors and sea views

The 42 guest rooms at Conca d'Oro are decorated in the same gold-and-white tones seen in the hotel's reception area, with gilded mirrors
and picture frames decorating the walls. Beds are made of elegant
wrought iron, and floors are tiled in either terra-cotta or brightly colored ceramic squares of turquoise or busy green-and-yellow floral patterns. Bathrooms are
similarly decked out in turquoise, green, or orange tiles. Most have bidets and shower stalls, which are not particularly spacious, while a few higher-priced rooms
have large whirlpool tubs. Most guest rooms have balconies or terraces that overlook the sea. Suites have extras like hot tubs in separate
living areas, minibars (no alcohol), and large terraces with loungers. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes,
hairdryers, and free Wi-Fi.

Features

Free breakfast and Wi-Fi, and an on-site restaurant with a terrace

Conca d'Oro serves a cold buffet breakfast (included in the room rate) every morning on the scenic terrace. Its restaurant
serves Mediterranean-inspired fare throughout the day and provides 24-hour room
service. Guests can dine by candlelight on the terrace during
the warmer months, and have their bar drinks delivered to their loungers or the outdoor hot tub. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. The hotel cannot be reach by road and there is no on-site parking, but
the staff can help with securing parking nearby.
