Bottom Line

Perched near the top of a cliff, three-pearl Hotel La Ninfa offers wide-angle views of the jagged Amalfi Coast, the majestic harbor, and quaint neighboring towns, though it's a bit far from the sites of downtown Amalfi. The nine rooms are small with streamlined decor, minibars, and flat-screen TVs, but only some have views. Features include a free breakfast and a cafe with limited room service as well as direct access to the beach, though it costs extra to rent lounge chairs and parasols. Travelers who want to stay along the Amalfi Coast may also want to consider the comparably priced Hotel Aurora, which has a panoramic view and is within walking distance of town.

Hotel La Ninfa

Scene

Quaint tourist hotel with amazing views

Popular with tourists, Hotel La Ninfa has 180-degree views of the Amalfi Coast and Harbor. The street entrance almost seems like a back door, as it's tucked into a long cement wall and a flight of stairs leads up to the reception area with a small wooden front desk and a painting of the Amalfi harbor. Archways look out over the water and everything else in the hotel pales in comparison to the eye-popping view. Terra-cotta tiles line the floor and wrought-iron chairs and tables are set up alongside the windows for guests to gaze at the water while eating breakfast, which is also served here. Opposite the windows is a long wall with a brick-framed fireplace decorated with hanging plates.

Location

Along the coast, a 20-minute walk from Amalfi's downtown

Hotel La Ninfa is in a great spot for relaxing, but for those who want to see the sites of town on foot, the location is a bit awkward. The center of Amalfi is a 20-minute walk from the hotel or a four-minute drive, although parking can be a challenge in the small town. A bus that takes passengers into town stops just a two-minute walk from Hotel La Ninfa's front door, but the service can be unreliable and crowded. While Amalfi doesn't have a lot of must-see historic sites, there are a few notable ones. The ninth-century Duomo di Amalfi is a four-minute drive away, while the Museo Della Carta, dedicated to the history of handmade paper, is seven minutes away by car. The Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport is about 70 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Compact, cheery rooms, some with wonderful views

Hotel La Ninfa's nine individually decorated rooms have simple but pleasant decor, with white walls accented with frescos, paintings of the waterfront, or blue plates with celestial themes. But the real draw is the outstanding coastal views from some of the windows. Classic Rooms have benches, nightstands, and dressers, while Superior Rooms include extra chairs to look out over the water. Junior Suites also have terraces with seating. Printed bedspreads in some rooms add an old-fashioned feel. Amenities found in all rooms include small flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes. Bathrooms have walk-in showers but feel compact, though the use of green glass window tiling and round walls plus big arched mirrors make them feel larger than they are.

Features

Free breakfast, cafe with limited room service, free hotel-wide Wi-Fi, and business center

Hotel La Ninfa has just a few basic amenities. A breakfast of cereal and baked goods is offered every morning, but the selection doesn't vary much from day to day. The cafe also serves light meals, and room service is available during limited hours. The hotel has direct beach access and umbrellas and lounge chairs are available for a fee. Parking is available for a fee, which can be useful since finding a spot on the street can be tough. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
