Bottom Line

Near Vondelpark, Hotel Europa 92 is a mid-range hotel with a large backyard terrace that opens up from its bar and breakfast room. The 46 rooms, while modern-looking overall, are on the small side and have dated amenities such as tube TVs, but rates are reasonable and include a continental breakfast. A lot of traffic passes by here, with trams and buses stopping around the corner, making it both convenient and a little noisy. For more modern rooms with flat-screen TVs travelers can try the nearby Hotel Espresso.

Scene

Basic mid-range hotel with a great backyard terrace

This family-run hotel had partial renovations in 2012, and though decor was updated, amenities were not. A contemporary design scheme with a predominately dark palate of black furniture runs throughout the property. Hints of lime green accent everything from the patio furniture cushions to highlights in the otherwise black and white photographs of Amsterdam that adorn the walls. The property attracts both business travelers and tourists looking for reasonably priced digs near Vondelpark.

Location

Convenient location near major attractions and tram lines

The hotel is on a busy street near a major intersection and is surrounded by several restaurants, bars, and shops. The convenient location is a short walk from several top sights, including Leidseplein and the scenic Vondelpark -- each six minutes away on foot -- as well as the Museum Quarter, which can be reached in about 10 minutes. Several different tram lines stop right by the hotel, and Centraal Station can be easily reached in 15 minutes via the No. 1 line. There is also a direct bus from Leidseplein square that runs straight to the airport (45 minutes total travel time).

Rooms

Small rooms with limited amenities and tube TVs

Though they're on the small side, the 46 rooms at Hotel Europa 92 compare reasonably with other three-pearl properties in the area. Rooms range in capacity from tiny Singles to Quadruple Rooms that cater to groups. Decor was updated in 2012, and rooms feature black-and-white photographs with the same lime-green details found elsewhere in the hotel. Most rooms have awkwardly placed tube TVs atop black tables and pairs of chairs. The only other furnishings are small bedside tables. All rooms have safes, free Wi-Fi, and wall-mounted bedside reading lights. White-tiled bathrooms are simple with walk-in showers, hairdryers, and pump dispensers of hand soap and body wash.

Features

Backyard terrace, lounge bar, and free continental breakfast and Wi-Fi

Breakfast is included in room rates. It's a typical continental selection of fruits, cereal, breads and cold meats and cheeses along with coffee and tea. A small lounge bar connects to the breakfast room and both open out onto a garden terrace, which has plenty of parasol-covered tables beneath a huge mural depicting Amsterdam. Potted plants, tree boxes, and small garden sculptures help break the terrace up into smaller sections. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
