Bottom Line

The Blue Karma Hotel is an intimate upscale resort in the Balinese beach destination of Seminyak. The nine-villa retreat is centrally situated, with many attractions, restaurants, shops, and beaches less than a 10-minute drive away. The spacious, modern villas are rustic in style, with atmospheric accents like rough-hewn wood and animal skin rugs, and many have small private pools. The serene outdoor pool is surrounded by Balinese statues and tropical greenery, while the stylishly rustic, open-air Blue Karma Restaurant & Bar serves both Asian and Western cuisine, as well as a free American-style breakfast. All rates also include a free 15-minute back and shoulder massage at the spa. Free Wi-Fi and a beach shuttle are available, but there are no fitness or business centers. For those who must be on Legian's Kute Beach, check rates at Bali Mandira Beach Resort & Spa.

Scene

Intimate resort with colorful, modern Balinese style, surrounded by greenery and traditional artwork

The Blue Karma Hotel offers a modern take on traditional Balinese style; its nine private villas spread throughout lush tropical grounds. Guests are greeted with welcome drinks in the lobby's traditional thatched roof, open-air pavilion, outfitted with a large brass chandelier, purple-cushioned wicker seating, and traditional wood carvings. The open-air restaurant and bar uses a similar style, its cool stone floors decorated with colorful traditional paintwork, wicker chairs and traditional carved wooden seats topped with lavender cushions, and traditional Balinese artwork throughout. There's also a wooden deck, and the whole space looks out on a grassy lawn and the sinuous pool, itself lined with palm trees and a wooden deck topped with cushioned wicker loungers.

Location

Centrally located in Seminyak, less than a 15-minute walk from the beach

The Blue Karma Hotel is centrally located in the beach town of Seminyak, with Seminyak Beach, Double Six Beach, boutique shops, restaurants, and Supermarket Bintang all within walking distance. Legian Beach, Seminyak Square, the Bali Blast Monument, and Kuta Beach are all less than a 10-minute drive from the hotel, while the Discovery Shopping Mall and Waterbom Park are around 15 minutes away. Ngurah Rai International Airport is a 22-minute drive away.

Rooms

Modern-rustic, Balinese-inspired villas with private patios, some with private pools and kitchenettes

The nine villas at the Blue Karma Hotel share the common areas' Balinese-inspired, modern-rustic design; they come in sizes from one to four bedrooms. Lavender accent walls and traditional Balinese artwork add color to the cool rooms, with their stone floors and gray walls, and large carved doors and accents add character. Plush gray chairs provide extra seating and large floor-to-ceiling windows brighten up the space with natural light. All rooms have flat-screen TVs with DVD players, coffeemakers, and minibars. Some villas have kitchenettes with stovetops, microwaves, and full-size refrigerators, as well as living rooms with gray couches and wood tables. Almost all villas have small private pools with colored LED lights and wooden decks with seating areas. Modern bathrooms have cool stone floors and oversized, walk-in rainfall showers; large stone sinks sit on wooden countertops with lighted mirrors above, and bathrobes are provided. Almost all bathrooms are partially open-air, which may be a problem for some guests.

Features

Outdoor pool, open-air restaurant and bar, spa, free breakfast, free area shuttle

The sunny outdoor pool is small, but lined with plenty of loungers and palm trees, and the adjacent Blue Karma Restaurant & Bar offers shaded poolside seating. The restaurant serves excellent Western and Asian cuisine all day long, accompanied by jazz and blues music. A free American-style breakfast with coffee, bacon, eggs cooked-to-order, pancakes, crepes, and fruit is served here daily. Massages, mani/pedis, facials, scrubs, and detox programs are all offered at the full-service spa, and all guests receive a free 15-minute back and shoulder massage. Concierge services are available and there is room service, though with limited hours. The hotel also offers a free area beach shuttle. There are neither fitness nor business centers.
