Scene

Design-focused, creative hotel

Guests enter the Claris Hotel, a large stone and glass building, through the central atrium and into the lobby. Guests will find impressive Egyptian, Hindu, and Roman artifacts displayed in every corner of the hotel (though the Egyptian collection is the focus). This former palace was converted into a hotel in 1992, and in the lobby and beyond the hotel has an atmosphere of upscale elegance. The hotel's aesthetic is a nice alternative to the ultra modern decor found in many of the city's hotels.

Location

Good tourist location a quick walk from Plaza Catalunya and Paseo de Gracia.

The Claris Hotel is located in Barcelona's Eixample neighborhood and within walking distance from Plaza Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia (home to some of the city's most famous shops). Gaudí fans, take note: La Sagrada Familia is within walking distance. Overall, it's a good location for travelers who want to be within walking distance of attractions during the day and in a quiet location at night.

Rooms

Quiet, creative rooms with luxurious touches

Rooms at the Claris Hotel have Egyptian-inspired art objects living alongside modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs. Rooms range in size from standard to the chic duplex suite. All rooms have stocked minibars, luxurious bathrooms, and hardwood floors; most have neutral color schemes and plenty of designer touches. Rooms have individualized design; one suite has an electric blue tufted sofa next to a glass-encased piece of art. Rooms are large for Barcelona and are quiet, but do not have tea and coffee facilities.

Features

Rooftop pool, cocktail bar, and on-site museum

The Claris Hotel has many features for the business and leisure traveler. There are meeting rooms, venues for special functions, an outdoor swimming pool, a solarium, gym, and sauna. One property highlight is the cocktail bar and restaurant with striking views of the city. The most distinguishing feature is the hotel's extensive collection of Egyptian artifacts. The hotel owner is enthusiastic about Egyptian artwork -- there's even an on-site museum on the first floor.
