Hotel Inglaterra is the mid-range sister property of the more luxurious Hotel Majestic in nearby Passeig de Gracia. It is a boutique hotel with a modern feel, but the real draw here is its great location within walking distance of many tourist attractions. A breakfast buffet, tapas, and Mediterranean fare are served up daily in the charming Red Café, which is furnished with upholstered chairs and funky, food-themed paintings. Cocktails and wine can be ordered on the rooftop terrace, which offers nice seating areas and a tiny plunge pool. In contrast to the lovely common areas, guest rooms are a bit on the plain side. They have simple wood furnishings, drab beige tones, and small bathrooms with tub/shower combos.
A central location near Passeig de Gracia, Las Ramblas, and the Gothic Quarter
Hotel Inglaterra is conveniently located near various tourist spots in central Barcelona, with the modernist landmarks that line Passeig de Gracia and the medieval buildings, boutiques, and restaurants of the Gothic Quarter all within easy reach. Las Ramblas -- the tree-lined, pedestrian-friendly avenue filled with shops and nightlife options -- is just a short jaunt away, as well. Public transportation for the rest of the city is a breeze, and there are plenty of bus and metro stations in the area (Universitat station is the closest). For those arriving from BCN, the airport shuttle is just down the road. The actual location of the hotel is quite busy, so light sleepers should request rear-facing rooms.
Barcelona is an eclectic city that is popular for its historic and remarkable architecture, vibrant club scene, and urban beaches along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The capital of the Catalan region, Barcelona speaks its own language -- literally and figuratively. Known for a frenetic pace, the city is full of modernist architecture, medieval history, quirky fashion, and endless tapas bars. Located on the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula, the city has a Mediterranean climate with mild, humid winters and warm, dry summers.
