While the budget-friendly Hotel Oasis, like many hotels at the same price point, doesn't offer much in the way of extras, it does live up to its name, providing a generally quiet place to stay near many of Barcelona's top attractions in the Ciutat Vella. Rooms are small but modern, and provide all the basics: comfortable beds, air-conditioning, hair dryers, and shampoo, along with flat-screen TVs. Given the hotel's location on Pla de Palau Square -- walking distance to the Port of Barcelona, the Maremagmun shopping mall, the Gothic Quarter, the trendy Born, the beach, and Las Ramblas -- it's an excellent value for a mid-range hotel. While it's a good choice for tourists and families, it doesn't offer much in the way of services for business travelers.
Scene
Hotel Oasis is low-key, and offers good value to those on a budget.
Housed in a 19th-century building, the Oasis is a clean, well-kept property that's surprisingly modern: a well-lit lobby with marble floors and pops of pink in the interior courtyard, where smoking is allowed. Still, the hotel keeps connected to the past by displaying ancient rocks and artifacts in the lobby, and leaving some brick exposed. But this hotel isn't one designed for lingering -- while it does have a small lobby bar, most guests use the Oasis' central location as a base for sightseeing.
Location
Near Port Vell, the Franca Train Station, Las Ramblas, the trendy Born District, and Barceloneta Beach
Situated on Pla de Palau Sqaure, the Oasis is within walking distance of many of the Barcelona's sights in the Ciutat Vella, or old city. Next to Port Vell, it's about a 10-minute walk to the foot of Las Ramblas, where there's a statue of Christopher Columbus, and about the same distance to Barceloneta Beach, the Picasso Museum, and Ciutadella Park. The Caterina Market is about a 15-minute walk. Even closer -- about five minutes by foot -- is the Santa Maria del Mar Church, and the pick-up point for the hop-on-hop-off tourist bus, which stops at the city's attractions. Also within a short walk is the Barceloneta Metro Station, and the Franca Train Station, which has an airport connection.
Rooms
Rooms at the Hotel Oasis are small but modern and cover all the basics.
For a mid-range hotel, the rooms at the Hotel Oasis exceed expectations. Though small, rooms are modern and tidy, with mostly white linens and pops of color, wood floors and gray-and-black bathrooms, some of which have been renovated, and include hair dryers and shampoo. The rooms have flat-screen TVs and air conditioning, plus balconies or terraces.
Features
Hotel Oasis has a snack bar and buffet breakfast.
The Hotel Oasis is a mid-range hotel, and amenities are few. There's a limited buffet breakfast for a fee, a small interior courtyard for smokers (rooms are nonsmoking), and a small bar with snacks where guests can congregate. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, and the front desk offers free luggage storage and a safe for valuables.
