This hip, upscale hotel with 60 rooms is a
10-minute walk from the Midi train station, in a mixed-use neighborhood
consisting of hotels, cafes, and businesses. Its aesthetic calls to mind a nightclub; the common areas, hallways, and rooms have shiny black surfaces, avant-garde artwork, low lighting, and metallic accents
on lamps, bars, and walls. Generally the rooms get high marks for bed comfort
and cleanliness, though there have been complaints about street noise. A
few visitors have also noted that the surrounding area can feel deserted at
night.
Scene
Contemporary decor with nightclub feel; shiny black surfaces everywhere
Black is the color of choice here; it is
interrupted by splashes of color here and there, but dominates the decor
throughout the hotel, from the shiny black flagstones in the lobby hallway to
the black reception desk and black carpeting in the rooms. The hotel is
situated on a combination commercial and residential square of sorts; from the
outside it could pass for a retail space, but inside it does feel like an ultra-hip boutique, with black and white photos and the occasional
wall-mounted sculpture in the common areas.
Location
Near Midi train station in garment district; 15-minute walk to city center of Brussels
The hotel is situated on a small
square-like pedestrianized space, met by a U-turn road. The square itself is
small but has a few cafes and shops. Grocery shops and local business are
within walking distance, and several major roads are nearby, including Brussels
Ring. The overall area is a mix of commercial and residential properties and has a much
more local feel to it than other neighborhoods in the city. It's a little under a 20-minute walk to the Grand Place (the city's central square), and Brussels Airport is a bit more than a 20-minute drive northeast.
Rooms
Narrow, contemporary spaces in gray, black, and white
The
ultra-contemporary aesthetic of the property extends to these minimalist guest rooms,
with black carpeting, striped black-and-white pull curtains, and large, brushed-chrome
standing floor lamps. Large banks of windows in most spaces keep the somewhat
dark decor a bit lighter than in the rest of the hotel. Rooms
are clean and beds are said to be comfortable, while larger units have
enclosed terraces with bamboo walls. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, stocked
minibars, safes, and black stone-tiled bathrooms. Still, large smoked glass doors
for the bathroom have made some uncomfortable when it comes to privacy,
and a few guests have complained of street noise reaching units.
Features
Covered rooftop terrace designed for smokers; business center, lounge, and spa on hand as well
The
hotel has several places for guests to lounge and enjoy a drink (or a smoke),
including a small rooftop patio shaded by a large stretched canopy and a lounge
with a TV and large black velour wraparound couches. There is a small business
center with a couple of computer terminals as well as a small on-site spa with
a sauna, a steam bath, and massage rooms. And the restaurant be Lella is
open for dinner from Tuesdays through Saturdays. Two meeting rooms are available for business
travelers with understanding that other spaces in the hotel can be used for
meetings as well. Free Wi-Fi is offered throughout the property.
