Hotel Le Relais La Borie's best feature is its superb location right on the famous Geribá; it's a gorgeous swath of sand in the middle of a tony residential neighborhood. This upscale hotel has 41 spacious rooms and suites with light, breezy decor; some have ocean views. Alas, not all look over the beach, and some bathrooms are in need of a refresh. A peaceful swimming pool, small spa, and beach attendant add to Le Relais La Borie's luxury. The well-regarded on-site restaurant serves a hot buffet breakfast and a la carte meals for lunch and dinner. Travelers may want to compare rates and amenities with the neighboring upscale Serena Buzios Resort, which has a more modern look.
Relaxed hotel with a peaceful courtyard, elegant restaurant, and ocean views
A circular driveway leads up to this rust-colored resort topped with a slanted terra-cotta roof. Inside, the airy lobby has white-tile floors, cream colored walls, and overstuffed white couches. The front desk is painted with a beachscape in sandy colors. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto the courtyard, a lush, green space with ferns, palm trees, and a few flowering plants hanging from trellises. Padded lounge chairs, tables, and a mod white daybed give plenty of spots to rest. Guest rooms open out to this courtyard.
The cobalt-blue pool has a peaceful vibe, despite having a poolside bar. The back of the hotel and the pool area all overlook the ocean. And the upscale restaurant aims for all-out elegance with white tablecloths and traditional French dining chairs. The bar, with marble-topped cafe tables and cream leather club chairs, continues the look.
A gorgeous beach location in Geribá, but not walking distance to other attractions
The Le Relais La Boria has one of the most spectacular locations in Geribá. The neighborhood is mainly residential, with high end villas, but the beach has several guest houses and hotels in the vicinity. Geribá is a pleasant and generally safe area in the region of Búzios. But other beaches and the historic center of Búzios aren't walking distance. The historical center -- with its Colonial buildings, cobblestone streets, shops, nightclubs, and restaurants -- is about a 10-minute drive away. Most restaurants and bars are located along the Rua das Pedras (Stone Street). Taxis can take guests to this area of town.
The hotel can assist in organizing transfers in and out of Rio de Janeiro. Reaching the Galeão International Airport is about two-and-a-half to three hours by car. The neighboring city of Cabo Frio has a domestic airport about an hour's drive away; during the summer months it receives charter flights from Argentina and Chile.
Light, airy rooms with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and beach or garden views
Guest rooms have a light, breezy look to them with white-tile floors, cream-colored walls, and crisp white bedding. Squares of hanging blue-print fabric act as the bed’s headboard, and bedside lights' lampshades are done in matching fabric. A few little touches like white slipcovered armchairs, rustic wood furniture, or white-painted side tables point to a romantic French country look. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning. White-tiled bathrooms have roomy granite-top sinks, wall-mounted hairdryers, walk-in showers, and fancy L´Occitane toiletries. But some of the tile grout in the bathrooms is looking a little dingy and worn. The rooms are divided into three categories: Comfort, Master, and Suite. Rooms are also split between either ocean or garden views. Suites have additional seating areas, hardwood floors, and jetted soaking tubs.
Elegant restaurant and bar, stunning pool area, beach with attendant
The hotel's well-known restaurant serves a free hot breakfast buffet and French-Brazilian a la carte meals for lunch and dinner. Its adjacent bar serves drinks in a regal but breezy atmosphere. Room service is also available from morning until late evening.
Le Relais La Borie's tranquil pool lined in cobalt-blue tiles looks out over a panoramic beach view. It's bordered by white loungers, and a poolside palapa offers shade. There's also a separate whirlpool and small wading pool. From here a small sandy path opens onto the beach, a broad swath of sand facing rolling turquoise waves. Beach towels, chairs, and sun umbrellas are on hand, and the hotel has an attendant to service guests.
There's a small on-site spa with a massage room and a romantic enclosed whirlpool. Adjacent is a tiny fitness center with a smattering of weight training equipment. Meeting room facilities are also available, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Laundry service is available, and the hotel offers free parking and a small gift shop.
