Overview

Pros
  • Walking distance to the Plaza

  • Plenty of Santa Fe charm in traditional-meets-funky decor

  • Spacious rooms, some with kitchenettes, plus casitas

  • Hot breakfast (for a fee) served in a semi-enclosed courtyard with a fireplace

  • Pet-friendly rooms are available

Cons
  • Property is older

  • On a busy street, so some rooms get traffic noise

  • No fitness center or full restaurant

Bottom Line

The Santa Fe Motel and Inn is a great value given its location near the popular Plaza in downtown Santa Fe. The spacious accommodations include rooms with kitchenettes along with more traditional casitas. Rooms are clean and in good condition, but rooms near the busy Cerrillos Road can be noisy. A hot breakfast is served (for a fee) in a semi-enclosed outdoor courtyard with a kiva fireplace. Travelers looking for a traditional Santa Fe property close to attractions will likely be happy here, but those who want a slightly more modern space can try the similarly priced Inn on the Paseo.

Scene

Small and cozy inn with artsy, colorful decor

The Santa Fe Motel and Inn is housed in a traditional adobe building on a busy street, surrounded by well-manicured grounds. A set of French doors leads to a tiny, colorful lobby, painted yellow and green with a rustic wood-beamed ceiling. The breakfast area is the main common space, and it’s split into two rooms, a narrow one with a long dining table and an open-air space covered with a rustic wood ceiling strung with lights, and a kiva fireplace in the corner.

Location

On a busy road, a short walk to the Plaza and many restaurants

The hotel sits on busy Cerrillos Road, right next to the luxurious Hotel Santa Fe & Spa and close to many restaurants and shops, including a Whole Foods supermarket down the street. It’s about a 10- to 15-minute walk to the Plaza and near the Santa Fe Depot, with the popular Tomasita’s restaurant, which is a four-minute walk from the hotel. Canyon Road is a seven-minute drive away and the Santa Fe Municipal Airport takes 20 minutes to reach by car.

Rooms

Spacious motel rooms and casitas with funky, local decor

There are a few different lodging options at the Santa Fe Motel and Inn, including standard hotel rooms, rooms with kitchenettes, and three traditional casitas. All have tons of local charm, with tile floors, orange and gray patterned Native American blankets on the beds, and colorful painted tile in the kitchenettes and bathrooms. Rooms also have beamed ceilings and rustic unfinished and painted wooden furniture. Chilis hang outside the entrance to the casitas. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, hairdryers, and irons and ironing boards, and most have refrigerators and microwaves. Kitchenettes come with countertop burners and toasters, as well as crockery and utensils. Yoga mats are unique, in-room amenities. Some rooms, including two of the casitas, are pet-friendly.

Features

Hot breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and a computer with Internet access

A hot breakfast is served (for a fee) in two rooms, one of which is semi-open and has its own kiva fireplace. Wi-Fi is free throughout and there’s a computer with internet access by the breakfast area. Features otherwise are sparse; there's no fitness center or full restaurant.
