Bottom Line

Hotel Eden is a large upscale hotel in a scenic park setting along the beachside promenade leading to Rovinj's old town. Its 1970s building and interiors are spotless and well-maintained, but dated -- though the 325 guest rooms and suites will be completely refurbished in November 2016. All rooms have balconies (some with sea views) as well as flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel offers indoor and outdoor swimming pools as well as a chic beach area with sunbeds and towels. Guests can choose between three on-site restaurants, and the hotel offers a wealth of features aimed at relaxation and entertainment, including a modern wellness center, sports facilities like tennis courts and even a bowling alley, and kid-friendly amenities. Travelers looking to stay in Rovinj's old town should check out the upscale Hotel Adriatic.

Hotel Eden

Scene

A large, '70s-era hotel located in a scenic natural setting

Hotel Eden is situated in an exceptional natural setting next to a protected forest reserve and adjacent to two other high-end hotels belonging to the same chain. The vast hotel grounds are dotted with exotic trees and border the beachside promenade that follows the coastline to Rovinj. Built in the early '70s, the five-story building is a typical example of communist-era architecture, and its interiors, though spotlessly clean and neat, have a dated look -- but a program of refurbishment is in the works. The spacious marble-floored lobby is full of light thanks to the many windows, and seating areas of contemporary-style sofas break up the vast space, with a lobby bar and its outdoor terrace overlooking the gardens. There are several interesting artistic accents decorating public spaces throughout the property, like the blue glass wall behind the reception counter, tapestries next to the restaurant entrance, murals in the spa area, and colorful contemporary-style paintings in the corridors. This hotel is popular with guests on package tours, especially during the summer months. During the winter, many sports groups stay here for the sports facilities.

Rooms

Clean and comfortable but dated rooms scheduled for a revamp in 2016

All the guest rooms at Hotel Eden have balconies overlooking the gardens or with direct or partial views of the sea. The Standard Rooms are the ones with garden views (some have partial sea views) and are decorated in bright orange tones: orange accent walls, curtains, bedspreads, and faux-leather sofas, while the floors are covered in brown carpeting. Superior Rooms offer sea views and feature a blue color palette with a few lemon-yellow accents. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, and minibars. Bathrooms are fitted with either shower/tub combos or small shower stalls, as well as free toiletries and hairdryers. Though the rooms are spotlessly clean (apart from stained carpets in some rooms), the decor is dated and the furniture is old-fashioned -- but all rooms will be completely refurbished and redecorated during Winter 2016.

Some of the Standard Double Rooms are on the small side, measuring only 150 square feet. The largest room is the Executive Suite, which sleeps up to five people and consists of a twin bedroom and a second double bedroom, as well as a separate living room with a sofa bed. Five Deluxe Suites feature flat-screen TVs in each of the two bedrooms (one double and one twin), separate showers and bathtubs, double sinks, and extras like robes and slippers. The highlight in these suites is the large outdoor terrace, which is equipped with a whirlpool and sunbeds.
