  • On-site beach access -- with lots of sea turtle sightings
  • Big, stylish rooms with mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs
  • Infinity pool, kids' pool, and Jacuzzi
  • Walking distance to shops and restaurants
  • Beautiful 15-acre grounds with lots of pretty walkways leading to beach
  • Located next to two championship golf courses, which guests can use

  • Pricey on-site dining
  • No Wi-Fi in rooms
  • Smallish bathrooms

Bottom Line

This upscale 533-room resort is perched on Anaehoomalu Bay on the Kohala coast, offering on-site beach access, lovely grounds with winding paths and fish ponds, and two pools. Rooms are big and stylish, but they lack Wi-Fi, and bathrooms are typically on the small side. The location -- next to two championship golf courses, and within walking distance of shops and restaurants -- is convenient, especially since guests may be inclined to skip the pricey, mediocre on-site dining.

Oyster Hotel Review

On Anaehoomalu Bay on the Kohala coast, with some of the Big Island's best sunsets and snorkeling

This Marriott resort rests on Anaehoomalu Bay, which has a beautiful beach that is, typically, not very busy. It's part of the Big Island's northwestern Kohala coast, where ancient sites coexist with luxury resorts and renowned golf courses. This area is also known for its snorkeling, sunsets, and fish ponds.

The Big Island is packed with natural wonders, including active volcanoes, where visitors can still see lava flows, white-sand, black-sand, and even green-sand (!) beaches, cascading waterfalls, and rainforests. It's by far the largest of the Hawaiian islands, so be prepared to drive to experience some of the top attractions.
