Twenty One Whitfield is a three-pearl hotel situated in the Tin Hau section of Causeway Bay. The property isn't convenient to the city's major tourist sites, but it's close to public transportation. The 54 apartment-style units are modern and attractive, and all have comfortable beds, flat-screen TVs, DVD players with iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi, but some lack bathtubs. Plenty of natural light pours in through floor-to-ceiling windows, and some units have excellent harbor views. Aside from a rooftop deck, the hotel doesn't offer much in the way of amenities. Travelers looking for more features and a better location may wish to consider Regal Hongkong Hotel on the other side of Victoria Park, but rates are slightly higher.
Scene
A striking skyscraper with a rooftop terrace offering stellar harbor and skyline views
Twenty One Whitfield is housed in a 36-story glass-fronted skyscraper that stands out among the other older buildings on the block. The lobby is functional and a bit cold, with slate-gray tiles and a massive, white marble reception desk, and there's no seating, so it isn't a place where guests tend to gather. The hotel's only other common space is a rooftop deck, which is far more inviting as it offers superb views of Victoria Harbour and the city's skyline. Tables, chairs, and sun loungers are provided for guests to relax and take a breather from Hong Kong's busy streets. Guests who book the property are mostly couples on urban getaways, and some families who want accommodations that have the conveniences of home. The hotel also sees a fair number of business travelers, as it's a short taxi or MTR ride to the city's business district.
Location
Tin Hau location that's close to public transportation, but far from tourist sights
Twenty One Whitfield is in the Tin Hau area of Causeway Bay, overlooking Victoria Harbour just northeast of Victoria Park. The immediate area isn't great for sightseeing or high-end shopping. It's close to a range of public transit options, although most tourist sights are more than a 30-minute ride. The Gordon Road bus stop is a one-minute walk, and the Lau Li Street tram and Tin Hau MTR station are both a little more than five minutes on foot. The Fortress Hill MTR station is a little under a 10-minute stroll. A supermarket and some shops are a short walk from the property, and several bars and restaurants are on nearby Whitfield and Electric Roads.- 29 minutes to Signal Hill Garden via public transit
Rooms
Chic, apartment-style rooms with fully stocked kitchens, seating areas, and floor-to-ceiling windows
Apartment-style guest rooms at Twenty One Whitfield have sleek, minimalist decor, and accents that make spaces warm and inviting. There are honey-colored hardwood floors, bright red armchairs, and attractive prints on walls to play off the mostly white-and-neutral palette. Natural light pours in through wrap-around floor-to-ceiling windows, with chic, white drapes that add dimension. All rooms have dining areas and fully stocked kitchenettes, with midsize refrigerators, electric kettles for instant coffee and tea, toasters, microwaves, cookware, and tableware, and some units have cooktops. There are also 40-inch flat-screen TVs, and DVD players with iPod docks and speakers, desks, cordless phones, safes, and freebies include bottled water and Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are stylish and streamlined, with walk-in rainfall showers or bathtubs, hairdryers, and toiletries. There are only two suites per floor, which helps ensure guest privacy. Many suites have excellent views of Victoria Harbour and the city skyline. Despite the busy city location, suites are quiet. All units are non-smoking.
Features
Rooftop deck with harbor and city views, a business center, and a 24-hour front desk
Amenities are slim at this apartment-style property -- there's no on-site restaurant or gym -- but the rooftop deck features views of Victoria Harbour and the city skyline, with a few loungers, tables, and chairs. There's also a business center, and a 24-hour front desk and security. Keycards are used to access the main entrance and elevators, which can be slow at times. The hotel has a few designated public spaces for smoking. No on-site parking is available, but paid public parking is nearby.
