Tucked amid Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza shopping district, the upscale 132-room Fontaine fuses modern design with chic Mediterranean accents. Stylish rooms include sleek furniture, large flat-screen TVs, and bathrooms tricked out with Carrara marble vanities. There’s a lot to keep guests occupied and entertained here, including a huge roof deck with fire pits, a popular restaurant and bar, as well as an outdoor pool with stunning city views. The fitness center is small, but it's well equipped, and though there's no spa, guests can book various in-room treatments. Travelers might also want to compare rates with the nearby Raphael Hotel, which has similar features, but no pool.
The Fontaine's interiors are outfitted in a striking black-and-white palette with decor that deftly marries old and new -- think minimalist Mediterranean. The airy lobby is a stylish retreat, with high ceilings over marble- and mosaic-tile floors. A Baroque-inspired chandelier made of hand-blown Venetian glass adds a pop of color, while a specially commissioned portrait by Sarah Atkinson presides over a vibrant Persian-style carpet and distinctive white leather, contemporary seating. The on-site restaurant, 901 West, offers a sleek space and a handsome wine cellar, and draws guests from around Kansas City. The rooftop terrace and pool with cabanas provide even more chances to relax in the hotel's upscale surroundings. Most of the furnishings throughout the property are made exclusively for the hotel and the luxurious, bespoke style and refined, laid-back atmosphere appeal to well-heeled couples as well as the many celebrities and athletes that stay here when they pass through town.
In high-end Country Club Plaza, a short drive to Kansas City’s top attractions
The Sorella is on the western edge of
Country Club Plaza, an outdoor shopping and dining distict that's over 90 years old and is home to upscale shops and restaurants, ranging from chain outposts to locally owned businesses. Several sights are within a quick walk or drive, including the Neptune Fountain (an 11-minute walk), the historic Battle of Westport site (a 15-minute drive), the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (and eight-minute drive), and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art (six-minute drive). Kansas City’s Power & Light District,
which has an array of restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment venues, is a 12-minute drive from the hotel. The Sprint Center, a popular venue for concerts and sporting events, is a 13-minute drive from the hotel, while Kauffman Stadium, home to the Royals, is about 20 minutes away by car. The Kansas City International Airport takes 30 minutes to reach by taxi or car.
Stylish, elegant rooms with modern furnishings and amenities
Large guest rooms start at 400 square feet of space and are sophisticated and modern, with chic and sober white, charcoal, and taupe walls and shimmery chairs and chaises in gray tones. Statement headboards serve as a visual focal point in many rooms, from the oversized black-and-white damask patterns in some rooms to the deep blue velvet upholstery in others. Dark brown carpets and wood veneer flooring are set with simple, contemporary dark wood furniture, while custom-designed
beds are topped with white down comforters and Egyptian-cotton linens. All rooms have 40-inch flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, coffeemakers with free coffee, and minibars. Some rooms also have iPod docking stations and separate seating areas featuring dark grey sectional sofas or plush grey tufted chairs and circular ottomans. The Presidential
Suite includes a full kitchen and a private patio. Luxurious bathrooms have large Carrara marble vanities plus spacious walk-in rainfall showers, bathrobes, and toiletries, though none have bathtubs.
Rooftop dining and drinking, free breakfast, an outdoor pool, and small fitness center
Free continental breakfasts are provided in the hotel’s off-lobby lounge, Solarium Lounge. The offerings include fruit and pastries, and unlike many hotel breakfasts, espresso drinks are included. The rooftop features 901 West, the hotel's popular on-site Mediterranean restaurant that's open for lunch and dinner and has a handsome wine cellar plus excellent Kansas City views. There's also an outdoor rooftop terrace with fire pits and a pool that's conveniently located near the bar and features two cabanas. Other features include 24-hour room service, a business center, and valet or self parking (for a fee). There's a small 24-hour fitness center on site with modern cardio and weight machines plus a small set of free weights and medicine balls, and in-room spa treatments can be arranged. The hotel also has six meeting rooms. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
