The Peru Star Apartments Hotel is difficult to find due to its lack of visible signage outside, making it blend in seamlessly with the private residences around it. Indeed, that's part of its appeal to many previous guests. Once through the brick wall and wooden gate out front, cool tile and vibrantly colored arches all create a homey, tropical atmosphere that's a far cry from the bigger hotels in the San Isidro area. The front of the hotel is open to the public, including the Peruvian restaurant which gets crowded during the lunch rush, while the rear lounge and patio and pools have a far more intimate vibe. The eclectic but cozy lobby feels more like a living room, and the garden around the pool and plants lining the hallways, walkways, and patio give the hotel an away-from-it-all style. Due to its large rooms with kitchenettes and quiet residential location, larger groups and mature couples looking for a self-sufficient home away from home frequent this aparthotel.

San Isidro is one of Lima's biggest cultural hubs, home to many museums like the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI) and other heritage sites like the pre-Inca Huaca Huallamarca burying temple. Concerts and exhibitions, art galleries, and other events are often in full swing in this neighborhood, as well many of the city's financial institutions. However, the aparthotel itself is a bit removed from it all, making for a quieter atmosphere. Most guests find it akin to actually living in Lima, rather than just visiting. The aforementioned destinations are all within a 10-minute drive from the aparthotel, give or take a few minutes depending upon traffic. Nearby shopping can be done at the Real Plaza Salaverry, a five-minute walk away, where there is also a movie theatre and various restaurants. Expect a 15-minute drive to the nearest beach. The more popular nightlife of Lima is about a 20-minute drive away in the Barrios Altos district, which can be a bit far for partiers. Budget up to an hour for a cab ride to Jorge Chavez Airport, though trips can be estimated as short as 30 minutes.

While many of the rooms are apartments, and are thus spacious, others have no windows and feel a bit more downmarket. Fridges, microwaves, a coffee maker, and stoves furnish the separate kitchens -- which are included in all of the apartment-style units -- and flatware and cookware are found in wooden cabinets and shelves. Tiled bathrooms are clean and modern, ranging from standing showers in entry-level rooms to shower-tub combos and half-baths for two-bedroom apartments. While there are no air-conditioners, loud and sometimes faulty portable units can be requested for use during the humid summer months. Flat-screen TVs with cable, DVD players, safes, and free Wi-Fi are all included in each apartment. Noise can sometimes filter in from neighboring guests, though the neighborhood itself is quiet.
