Internacional Design Hotel

It's impossible to miss the Internacional Design Hotel -- it's situated in a four-story building dating back to the 1920s, which now sports a bright lavender facade. The exterior reflects the hotel's quirky spirit, which is executed inside with tasteful yet eclectic flair. The reception area makes a splashy first impression thanks to a sequiny pendant light, a pair of armchairs in a black-and-white geometric print, and a front desk covered in jade-colored tiles. Hallways and stairwells get a similar design treatment with bold accent walls, geometric wallpaper, and spunky art, while rooms are divided into different design categories that feature Zen, Urban, Pop, and Tribe-themed decor. There's no real lobby here, though, so the main hangout spot is the restaurant and bar, a bright and casual space featuring a light wood bar, and white walls, plus an eclectic array of modern and vintage chairs, pendant lights, and rugs. There are a few loungy areas, too, like a nook at the back with a slouchy couch and bright ottomans. The location right on Rossio Square is hard to beat, making this a popular choice among tourists.

This hotel has a great location right on Rossio Square, one of the city’s main squares since the 13th century. The square is lined with restaurants and local stores, and is one of the must-sees in the city center. This central location is great for exploring the sights on foot, and most of the major attractions are within walking distance, including the Barrio Alto, the Praca do Comercio, and even St. George’s Castle and Alfama neighborhood.There are many tourist-y places nearby, and restaurants tend to be more expensive than in other parts of town, but other less crowded areas with more variety are just a short walk away. For longer distances, the Rossio metro station and several bus and tram lines can be found less than a block away. Guest rooms are divided into four different styles -- Zen, Urban, Pop, Tribe -- all with distinct decor and vibes, but outfitted with the same modern amenities. Pop rooms are the splashiest with bright walls and details like bathroom with checkered floors and Andy Warhol quotes on the walls. Tribe rooms give a more subdued palette of cream and brown with a few funky tribal prints thrown in. Zen rooms pair fresh white walls and light wood floors with dark brown furniture and accents, plus floral accent walls behind the beds. Finally, Urban rooms offer white walls with black furniture and graffiti-inspired art. Rooms are air-conditioned and include safes, LCD Sony TVs, free Wi-Fi, generously stocked minibars, and Nespresso coffeemakers. Some rooms have views of Rossio Square. On the downside, some rooms can be rather tiny. Standard Rooms with interior views measure less than 130 square feet, while those with street views are around 160 square feet. Superior Rooms only come in at 180 square feet, while Suites are about 270 square feet.Bathrooms tend to be stylish and modern, colored to keep in theme with the room. They also tend to be spacious, especially considering the size of some of the smaller rooms. All bathrooms have deep tubs with rainfall showers and include slippers, hairdryers, and Rituals toiletries. 

The Bastardo is the hotel's restaurant, a nice spot with a wine and cocktail bar, plus Portuguese food for lunch and dinner. This is also where the daily breakfast buffet is served. The buffet is usually included in the room rate and offers a decent selection of hot and cold items, including pancakes and made-to-order omelets.The hotel lacks a lobby lounge, but there's a small interior courtyard with faux grass, plants, and a few seats. A funky meeting room, "The Loft," is also available, plus there's a small business center with computers for guest use. Wi-Fi throughout the property is free. There are no fitness facilities on-site, but guests can take advantage of a discount at a nearby gym.Several high-end services are on offer. In addition to 24-hour room service, there's also a 24-hour concierge and 24-hour reception. Staff can arrange for transfers to the cruise terminal, airport, or train station, car service, dry cleaning or laundry service, babysitting, recommendations, or ticket assistance. There's no on-site parking, but parking is available nearby at discounted rates.
