Nice spa with indoor pool, aroma showers, Turkish baths, and treatment rooms
Spacious (but tired) rooms with free Wi-Fi; some with big balconies
Fantastic garden and outdoor restaurant with 2 Michelin stars
24-hour room service is available
On-site fitness center with cardio machines and free weights
Spacious lobby bar
Rooms have old tube TVs
Pool area and fitness center are quite dark
Dated, tired decor
The 263-room Occidental is a spacious property with a luxurious past. While it has all the amenities of an upscale hotel -- a spa, indoor pool, small fitness center, Michelin-starred restaurant, and 24-hour room service -- the decor is very dated. Rooms are spacious but tired, with lots of floral prints, wooden accents, and old tube TVs. Room amenities include free Wi-Fi, and in some, big balconies. The stand-out feature here is a fantastic garden and outdoor dining area, yet the hotel isn't really within easy walking distance of sights and restaurants. Those looking for alternatives could consider the Catalonia Plaza Mayor in Huertas or the luxurious Hotel Silken Puerta America.
Location
In Rios Rosas, part of the Chamberi district
The Occidental is located in the Rios Rosas neighborhood of the Chamberi district. There's plenty of restaurants and nightlife in the immediate area, and a metro station is located within a block of the hotel.Rios Rosas is one of six major subdivisions of Chamberi. It's a surprisingly pedestrian-friendly area located close to the financial district. A subtle and charming blend of corporate offices, residences, and nightlife geared towards people in their early 30s make up the neighborhood. Low key partying, dining, and convenient access to other areas of the city make it popular with young professionals and well-heeled couples.- 15-minute drive to Madrid-Barajas Airport
