Bottom Line

The NH Nacional is a 214-room hotel located in the Huertas neighborhood. Clean rooms have hardwood floors, flat-screen TVs, and minibars, although bedding is on the drab side. Big bathrooms are updated and feature shower/tub combos. Upgrading beyond the standard room gets more space, espresso machines, and in some cases, a balcony. A breakfast buffet with a great selection -- typical of NH hotels -- is on offer here, along with a simple cocktail bar on-site. While there is a fee for in-room Wi-Fi and some guests complain about street noise, the property is clean and offers a great location near three of Madrid's most popular museums.

Oyster Hotel Review

In happening Huertas, within walking distance of Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor

Map of NH Nacional

The NH Nacional is located on an active street near Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The hotel is very close to the action without being right on top of it, so street noise at night isn't too much of a problem. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops in Huertas -- the area is considered by many to have the best nightlife and culinary scene in the city. It's also close to Puerta de Atocha train station, which serves the high speed trains.

The capital of Spain is a vibrant, multicultural city located right in the center of the country. The Cuatro Torres business area's additions to the city skyline (four sleek towers, including a hotel and corporate offices) give an idea of what Madrid is rapidly becoming: a sophisticated, cosmopolitan city -- albeit one that preserves its century-old traditions.

  • 19-minute drive to Madrid-Barajas Airport
  • 3-minute walk to Atocha train station
  • 4-minute walk to Reina Sofia Museum
  • 8-minute walk to Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum
  • 8-minute walk to El Prado Museum
  • 9-minute walk to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor
  • 15-minute walk to shopping on Gran Via
  • 17-minute walk to Retiro Park, Madrid's most famous garden
  • 21-minute walk to La Latina, a nightlife hotspot
  • 18-minute subway ride to Plaza de Oriente, home to the Royal Palace, the Royal Theater, and Sabatini Gardens
  • 22-minute subway ride to Templo de Debod Park, with great views and an original Egyptian temple
  • 27-minute subway ride to Plaza de Castilla, the financial district
