Bottom Line

Housed in a renovated 19th-century mansion, the adult-only, upscale Hotel Salvia is a beautiful boutique with lots of Mediterranean charm. All seven rooms at this property are individually decorated with rustic-chic decor, but you can expect to find beautiful bathrooms (most with claw-foot tubs), flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, and serene mountain views in every room. Hotel features include a quiet pool lined with loungers and trees, and a restaurant serving outstanding regional cuisine and Spanish wine pairings. The hotel’s location near Soller’s main square is ideal for those looking to explore this picturesque town on foot, though you'll have to take the streetcar to reach the beach. This is one of the most popular options in Soller; many prefer it to the nearby and also charming Hotel La Vila, which lacks the pool found here.

Scene

Charming adult-only boutique with tons of Mediterranean character

Built in the 19th century, the mansion housing Hotel Salvia is a wonderful example of traditional Mediterranean architecture, with thick stone walls, dark green wooden shutters, and clay tile roofs. This quiet and relaxing property includes a lovely garden full of greenery and flowers, a stone patio with wrought-iron furniture, and a long, rectangular pool lined with loungers. Interiors are stately yet inviting, with beautiful antiques, warm lighting, large windows, and lots of traditional hand-painted Majorcan tiles. The lobby has stone floors and high ceilings with an imposing arch and exposed wooden beams. A couple of classic paintings with ornate golden frames decorate yellow walls, and a few elegant pieces of wooden furniture and a red-hued couch give the room a refined, traditional style. This look continues throughout, including in the suites, where you'll find lots of local charm and rustic-upscale decor in yellow, ochre, and blue tones.

Location

Centrally located within walking distance to the town square, train station, and streetcar stop

Hotel Salvia is located in central Soller, along on a tiny street with just enough space for a small car and a foot-wide sidewalk on each side. Most of the town’s major attractions can be found within a five- to 10-minute walk of the hotel, including Plaza de la Constitucion, home to historic Banco de Soller (now Banco Santander), and the gorgeous San Bartomeu Church. There are several bars, restaurants, and a number of small local shops in the square area. If you're looking to reach the beach, the area's famous historic streetcar has a stop just four minutes' walk from the hotel. This scenic journey is about 25 minutes long. The main train station, with service from Palma, is just a five-minute walk away, though the road to Palma is one of the most scenic drives on the island. From Soller, it's about a 40-minute drive to get to the capital city and the airport.

Rooms

Airy, individually designed rooms with elegant decor, high-end bathrooms, and mountain views

The hotel has seven beautiful suites, all with large windows looking out over the mountains or garden. Beautiful Majorcan tiles and wooden shutters add lots of traditional and local charm, while antique-style pieces, such as small chandeliers and and rich fabrics, give the suites a stately, refined feel. Although all have a similar sophisticated style, each has its own color palette and unique features, such as a fireplace, a four-poster bed, or a chaise lounge. Most rooms have beautiful tiled floors, neutral palettes, though units located on the top level have handsome oak floors, exposed wooden beams, and classic rugs. All rooms have stocked minibars, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, bathrobes, hairdryers, and free Wi-Fi. All bathrooms are grand and airy and feature traditional Majorcan tiles, Damana toiletries, and pedestal or gorgeous wrought-iron sinks with vintage taps. Some bathrooms have claw-foot tubs and separate walk-in showers. Though five suites have king-size beds, the Orange Suite has two twin beds and the Soller Suite comes with a double bed.

Features

A pool, restaurant, and lounge, plus free Wi-Fi and breakfast

Tucked away amid plants and palm trees in the central courtyard, Hotel Salvia's pool has a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. Though set in within the courtyard the pool deck gets plenty of sun and is home to several padded loungers and beautiful mountain views. A few tables and chairs provide additional seating, and drinks and food service from the restaurant area available poolside. Salvia Restaurant is known among guests and locals alike for its excellent regional Mediterranean cuisine and wonderful Spanish wines. Meals are all served in a charming dining room with salmon walls, a fireplace, traditional Majorcan tiled floors, and large windows with wooden shutters. Thanks to a working fireplace, the residents’ lounge is a favorite among guests in the colder days, though it features classic decor in comfortable couches, painted portraits in decorative golden frames, and chandeliers year-round. Aside from the pool and lounge space, guests can take advantage of in-room massages, though no there is no dedicated spa on the property. It's also good to note that since this is an adult-only hotel, guests under 15 years old are not permitted. Wi-Fi and a daily morning breakfast buffet are free. Unlike at most luxury hotels, this small boutique's front desk is not open 24 hours.
