Scene
Budget, family-run hotel with bland interiors and a central Bugibba location
The low-priced Sunseeker Holiday Complex is a budget, family-run hotel in the heart of Bugibba with many returning guests who know the staff by name. Overall, amenities are few and interiors are bland -- however, highlights include sea views and lows rates. The multi-colored exterior of the property, with black metal railings and arched entryways, stands out against the neighboring white buildings. On the rooftop is the quintessential Malta hotel amenity: an outdoor pool with sea views. Guests, including sometimes noisy families and boisterous children, tend to congregate on the rooftop.
Location
On a quiet cul-de-sac in Bugibba, near shops and restaurants
This hotel is centrally located 500 meters from the busy Bugibba Square, the center of town with tons of restaurants, bars, and shops. Located on a cul-de-sac, the hotel’s street is fairly quiet. It’s an easy walk from the hotel to the Bugibba waterfront promenade and five minutes from the property is a sandy beach and the Oracle Casino. On the tip of the coastline, also in walking distance, is the Malta National Aquarium. The most beautiful beaches -- Golden Sands and Ghadira Bay -- are on the northern end of Malta, about an hour away by bus. The bus ride to Cirkewwa, with ferries to Gozo and Comino islands, also takes an hour. It’s 35 minutes to drive to the Malta International Airport.
Rooms
Basic, traditional apartments feature kitchens and dining areas; some have sea-view balconies.
Apartments feel like dorms with blue textiles, wooden furniture, and yellow-painted walls. While furnishings are clean, they look plain and dated. Studios sleep a maximum of two people. With sofa beds, one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms can hold between three to seven people. The best views are from balconies overlooking the sea, but others face the parking lot or sides of buildings. All apartments have dining areas and kitchens with ovens/stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, toasters, and kettles. Basic provisions from the market -- bread, coffee, milk, and other items -- are included in the room for a fee, or they can be returned to the mini market. Standard-looking bathrooms have mounted toiletries and standalone showers or shower/tub combos. Each apartment offers a ceiling fan, writing desk, and hairdryer, and (for an extra fee) safes, TVs, and Wi-Fi.
Features
Small outdoor and indoor pools, a gym, a game room, and a breakfast-only restaurant
The rooftop at the Sunseeker Holiday Complex becomes a hot spot during the summer months thanks to its small pool with kids' pool and inexpensive rates. Partially overlooking the sea, the rooftop offers blue lounge chairs that get plenty of sunlight and a snack bar. In the winter, the indoor pool is heated and has a section for children. The fitness center is basic with colorful mats under older weight and cardio equipment and there’s also a sauna; both, however, require an entry fee. Painted green, the game room offers a pool table, foosball, and other games. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, but there is a breakfast room with exposed ceiling beams and a well-stocked mini market that sells all of the necessary provisions for home-cooked meals. The bar has vintage Coca-Cola and Beatles artwork and comfy, yellow chairs in a lounge are. Two PC computers and a printer are in the lobby and can be used for an additional fee. There's also free limited parking for guests with cars.
